Dear Mr. Kulenski,
Per your request, on August 27, 2021, personnel from CTL I Thompson visited the residence atthe
address listed above to review the various framing items that had come into question regarding the
framing of the new detached studio/garage. The framing items in question are listed below:
• When the city came out for the sheathing inspection,the siding was already installed on the
north side walls.
® The stairs were pre-built stairs and deviated from the design drawings.
® The upper-level headers were attached to the ridge post with Simpson LS70 angles instead
of the plan specified HUC-series hangers.
After review, we recommend the following to address each item:
• The siding should be removed for proper inspection or new sheathing should be installed on
the inside of the north wall where the siding has been installed. The new sheathing and
fastening should follow the"Braced Wall Panel Schedule"on the design drawings.The 4'-0"
long wall with the electrical panel towards the east end of the studio does not need to be
sheathed on the inside.
® Due to the short run and limited stair width, the pre-built stairs are sufficient to support the
design loads. Make sure the landing is fastened to the wall per the detail on the design
drawings.
® The LS70 is sufficient to support the design loads in the vertical direction, but we
recommend installing solid blocking to provide additional lateral support. See attached
sketch for blocking detail
Our review was based on the 2018 IRC, a wind speed of 140 mph (exposure B), a roof dead load of
15 psf, a roof snow load of 30 psf, a floor dead load of 15 psf, and a floor live load of 40 psf.
