Deck Addition -Foundation Construction
Dear Mr. Kerns,
A representative of Shear Engineering Corporation conducted foundation excavation observations for
the proposed deck addition project located at the above referenced site on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.
The soils noted at the bottom of all pier footing foundation excavations consist primarily of silty
sandy clay. The soils noted exhibit moderate bearing capacities with low swell potential based on the
clay content observed. We believe the soils observed in the excavations will provide bearing
capacities consistent with the bearing capacities noted on the foundation plan prepared by Shear
Engineering Corporation.
This lot is suitable for the designed pier footing foundat ion system based on our excavation
observations. The deck addition foundation plan prepared by Shear Engineering Corporation dated
December 2020 was used. Footings were designed for a maximum allowable soil bearing capacity of
1,500 pounds per square foot (dead load plus full live load) and a minimum dead load of 500 pounds
per square foot.
Shear Engineering Corporation conducted pier footing formwork and reinforcing placement
observations on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. These observations were made to confirm that all pier
footing formwork and reinforcing placement were completed in substantial compliance with the
direction, details and specifications noted on the foundation plan.
