Dear Mr. Sinclair:
As requested, we have reviewed several framing items that were modified, deviated, or slightly
different than what was originally planned for the remodel framing at the above referenced
res idence.
We inspected the welding used to connect steel columns and steel beams. It is our opinion that
the welding was done per our recommendations and adequately connects steel columns and
beams to support the imposed design loads on them.
Where a steel column needed additional foundation in the basement, a new 38" square concrete
pad was observed to have been cut into the basement concrete floor and reinforced with #4 rebar
at 1 O" on center each way per our recommendations.
It is our opinion that the wall sheathing that was removed for the addition of new exterior
windows and doors was replaced with the addition of sheathing on interior walls on the Western
side of the structure. Therefore, it is our opinion that the structure is adequately sheathed for the
adequate resistance to wind shear or lateral forces.
Another item was the use of an existing steel beam to support floor only loading to replace a 11 '
section of bearing wall. The beam measures to be a W6x12 steel beam and can adequately span
the 11' length at its new location.
In the basement Southeast comer, a 3-2x10 beam was damaged and was eventually replaced with
a 3-9 ½" Microllam beam. It is our opinion that this was an adequate substitution for the
damaged beam in the basement.
