Attention: Building Department Official
This office has reviewed the design and installation of the Struxure Mechanically opening
Pergola at the above address as detailed in EX drawing set #21-37207. Additionally , due to some
unforeseen site-specific conditions, the installation of these posts into the footings detailed may be
adjusted as noted herein. This letter is applicable for any or all of the posts included in this plan.
At many of the columns included in t his installation, suitable ground was not found for
caisson installation as detailed in the above referenced plan. As such, this office is approving the
use of helical piles to be installed and used in place of the caisson piles designed. These helical
piles are to be separately designed and certified by a licensed eng ineer, and must be designed to
support the forces and reactions found in the corresponding calculation packages, rounded up to
the nearest 25 lb. These reactions are to be as follows: Tension = 200 lb ; Compression = 2200 lb;
shear= 150 lb, and moment= 27,900 lb-in(= 2325 lb-ft). T hese designed piles are also to be
encased in 5000 psi non-shrink grout min (or as specified per separate engineering)
Once installed, these helical piles may be connected to the posts via a steel plate, ( 4) thru
bolts, and a standard post base-cap. The steel plate is to be 3/8" galvanized steel (m in) and is to
be welded to the steel pile cap using a 1/8" min perimeter fillet weld. This plate is to have (4)
3/8" SS thru bolts with double-nuts into the post cap as detailed below. The post cap is to be
attached to the post using a (6) #14 tek screws (min). Posts and plates installed in this fashion
may not be directly centered over the helical pile, but must remain within a I" eccentricity from
the edge of the post to the pile casing.
Except as expressly provided herein, no additional certifications or affirmations are
intended. Final approval shall be at the discretion of the governing authority having jurisdiction as
inspection of work completed under permit has been performed by others. Unless otherwise noted
herein, all work and in stallation shall follow the direction and details provided in the sealed
drawing EX #21-37207, as well as the minimum requirements of the International B uild ing Code
(2018) and all other referenced codes and standards. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

This office has reviewed the design and installation of the Struxure Mechanically opening

At the corner column shown in the photo, the retaining wall , -m·---,----+ noted prevented the installation of a full , tapered caisson as detailed ""-, __________ _
in the original structural plans. As such, this office has reviewed ~1
the forces and reactions at this post and determined that a surface-.. ,.
mount attachment is sufficient for installation at the noted post. 1
At this post, use ( 4) 1/2" Power-Stud+ SD4 & SD6 anchors -----------I
into the 3000 PSI Concrete slab. Maintain 3" concrete edge
distance and 3 3/4" Anchor embedment. A typical detail has been
provided for reference.
