Deck Addition -Construction Observations (Permit: B2103286)
Dear Mr. Renninger,
Foundations
Shear Engineering Corporation conducted deck pier footing excavation observations on
Wednesday, May 19 , 2021. These observations were made to confirm that deck pier footings
were completed in substantial compliance with the details and specifications noted on the
approved permit set of plans.
Following our observation, it was confirmed that the deck pier footing excavations were a
minimum of 30" below finished grade and were a minimum of 24" diameter at the base. The
deck pier footings and patio slab were poured monolithically.
Framing
Shear Engineering Corporation was contacted during construction regarding proposed
modifications to the approved permit set of plans for the deck addition project located at the
above referenced site. Due to clearance concerns from the patio below, it was requested to use
2x8 joists at 12" on center instead of the 2x10 joists at 12" on center noted on the pe1mit plans.
In addition, in order to eliminate an additional concrete pier and wood post at the stair landing, it
was requested to use a triple (3) 2x8 flush joist/beam which cantilevers past the main 3-2xl 2
deck beam to support the stairs. Shear Engineering Corporation analyzed both requested
modifications and has approved the modifications as described above.
Shear Engineering Corporation was present at the above reference site on Thursday, June 17,
2021 in order to perform framing observations for the deck addition project. These observations
were made to confinn that deck framing was completed in substantial compliance with the
details and specifications noted on the approved pe1111it set of plans and with the framing
modifications approved by Shear Engineering Corporation during construction.
Following our observation, it is the opinion of Shear Engineering Corporation that the deck
framing was completed in substantial compliance with the details and specifications noted on the
approved permit set of plans and with the framing modifications approved by Shear Engineering
Corporation during construction. No corrections are required and the deck framing is approved.
