Box 580 281 North College Avenue . Fort Collins, Colorado 80522 2700 South Lemay Avenue Fort Collins, Colorado 80525 970.223.5770 RE: Support for the use of our church athletic field by Colorado Storm Academy (soccer) as part of the historic purpose and practice of Christ Center as a "community church." Dear Mr. Lopez: Thank you for your kind consideration of my questions in our phone conversation of December 1. Having conferred with our pastor and Church Board chairmen, we would like to clarify that welcoming Storm Academy's use of our athletic field fits well within to our historic purpose and practices as a community church. Over the years, we have opened our facilities in many significant ways for the benefit of our neighbors. Particularly, our youth ministry focuses on reaching children and fostering good character qualities and citizenship. This letter is to clarify and support this declaration. Colorado Storm Academy FC has requested to use a portion of our property for soccer practices and games. The organization's mission statement is: "We believe that soccer is more than an athletic endeavor; it is a means by which we foster the development of character, discipline, dedication, fair play, teamwork, and respect in our next generation of world and community leaders. Regardless of ability, our priority is helping each player receive the highest competitive potential and, in so doing, achieve their greatest dreams and aspirations, both on and off the soccer field. " The portion of field to be used is approximately 6 acres on the east side of Christ Center Community Church's property: east of the driveway to the service road on the east edge and from the north sidewalk to a row of plum trees on the south end of the field. Stor n's proposed schedule: Spring, March -May and Fall, August -mid November. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 4-7 p.m. for practice approximately 12 hours per week and Saturdays for games, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Only one game will be played at a time. This field has a baseball diamond with a backstop and playground equipment which has been in place for over 25 years. The field has been used by our church for a variety of recreational activities including activities for youth group, children's ministry and church members. Christ Center has 362 off-street parking spaces available in the south lot to serve the use of our fields. The fields are shielded from the adjacent houses by a fence along the entire south and east sides. 1 of 2 Becoming fully devoted to Jesus Christ. Sharing His heart for people. We feel that our church, Christ Center Commutitl, Church, is to be a blessing and outreach to our whole community and neighborhood. We are generous, not only with our athletic fields, but with our buildings as well. Our facility features a multi -purpose room, which has served as a sanctuary, concert hall, and recreational area. h1 the past local Christian volleyball and basketball leagues have used this space for league play. We have hosted many community organizations over the years, including: • Lion's Club/9 Health Fair • Larimer County Safe Kids Safety Fair • Larimer Chorale • Poudre Valley Hospital transitional parking • Larimer County for Elections (Voting Center) • Republican Caucus • City of Fort Collins Police Department meetings • Gideons International, Inc. leadership meetings • American Guild of Hand -bell Ringers workshop and concert • Ridgeview Classical School athletics and graduation • Heritage Christian Schools soccer • Fort Collins Soccer Club practice and clinics • Cub Scouts of America, group activities • Precepts, Inc. (weekly community bible studies) • Community Bible Study (CBS), Inc. (weekly community -wide Bible studies) • Frontier High School • Outreach Center, distributing food and clothing to the neediest in our community. With this input, we encourage the Fort Collins Zoning Department to deem as.a legitimate, historic and continuing "accessory" use of our facility, the hosting of other community organizations such as the Colorado Storm Academy's Soccer Club, The City has a limited number of places for sports groups to practice and play, and teams always scramble to get good field space reserved. We feel that accepting Storm Academy's use of the field would be a benefit to the community and compliment our purpose to reach children and foster good character qualities and citizenship. Respectfully submitted, Susan Santistevan, Business Administrator 970.223-5770 With Fred Urben, Church Board Chairman And David Niquette, Senior Pastor 2 of 2 MA1000116 — Approved with following condition on Dec. 16, 2010 Approved with the condition that if noise complaints are received from neighbors, City staff will re-evaluate the minor amendment.
