CO 80525 (970)493-8878 FAX (970) 493-0213 Re: Preliminary Wetland Survey of the Stanton Creek Property, Fort Collins, Colorado Dear Mr. Postle: A preliminary wetland survey of the Stanton Creek property was conducted on August 29, 1997 by Jon Alstad (ENSR) and Bill Berg (ENSR). Important parameters in the identification of wetlands include vegetation, hydrology, and soils. Wetlands include a prevalence of wetland plants and exhibit hydrologic and soil indicators, such as inundation, saturated soils, debris lines, mottling, or oxidized root channels. Since a formal wetland delineation was not conducted at the site, the identification of wetlands was based on vegetation and hydrologic indicators only. No wetlands were observed at the site. The majority of the site included an upland meadow dominated by upland vegetation including smooth brome, slender wheatgrass, cheatgrass, bottlebrush squirreltall, Canada thistle, lambsquarter, peppergrass, kochia, horseweed, and field bindweed. A small irrigation ditch along the northern property boundary included localized areas of saturated soil and ponded water due to recent heavy precipitation events. However, wetland vegetation was not present within the irrigation ditch. Common species present in the ditch include cocklebur, common sunflower, slender wheatgrass, and smooth brome. Other small, irrigation ditches were observed at the site although water and wetland vegetation were not present. Irrigation ditches are usually classed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) as "other waters of the U.S.". If irrigation ditches are currently being used for ongoing agricultural practices (e.g., irrigation of cropland) or are inactive and support upland vegetation, filling of or excavating in irrigation ditches are not under the jurisdiction of the COE. If you have questions or comments regarding information provided in this report, please contact Bill Berg or Jon Alstad at (970) 493-8878. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you and would appreciate an opportunity to assist you in any of your future permitting needs. Sincerely,,, <q,, Y`^ - ava-- Jon D.
