FINAL (11-23-17) pg. 1
Scope of Work - Digester Recirculation Pump Replacement Design
Amendment No. 1
11-23-17
The City of Fort Collins (City) intends to implement the following replacement project at the
Drake Water Reclamation Facility (DWRF):
DWRF Digester Recirculation Pumps - replacement of digester recirculation pumps, and pump
intake and discharge piping improvements to allow for off-gassing and for reduction of clogging.
Currently, gas build-up and solids clogging decreases flow capacity of the pumps from
approximately 250 gpm to 80 gpm. The existing pumps are centrifugal-type and will be replaced
with chopper-type pumps.
The purpose of this Amendment No. 1 is to provide technical analysis and engineering to
support the operations and maintenance issues observed at the plant in association with the
digester heating system and recirculation pumps. The analysis is required as a result of
observations of scaling within the heat exchangers; and the recognition by plant staff that further
investigation of sludge pumping and heat exchange is required to confirm the required size of
the digester recirculation pumps and to improve heat exchange efficiency.
Construction-related services are not included in the cost estimate attached.
The scope of work is divided into the following major tasks, summarized below:
Addendum No. 1, Task A - Data Analysis, Operations/Maintenance Protocol Development, and
Recommendations
Task A.1 - Data Analysis
Review chemical analysis of heat exchanger piping scale and identify potential cause(s) of
precipitate formation. Prepare for and participate in workshop with plant staff to review results of
chemical analysis, identify potential causes, and determine path forward. Prepare meeting
agenda and minutes.
Review digester and heat exchanger plant data to assess causes of inefficiencies.
Task A.2 - Operations/Maintenance Protocol Development
Identify operations and maintenance protocols to improve heat exchange. Prepare draft and
final of digester heat exchange operation/maintenance log. Prepare draft and of digester heat
exchange protocol memorandum. Coordination conference call and emails regarding
operations/maintenance protocol development.
Task A.3 - Recommendations
Based upon information and data collected by plant staff, interpret results and provide
recommendation regarding the operation of the heat exchangers and digester sludge
recirculation pumps. Confirm flow capacity of proposed digester sludge recirculation pumps.
Prepare for and facilitate meeting with plant staff - prepare agenda and meeting minutes.
