A bore installation is the method of choice when installing power and communication cables under highways, railroad tracks, waterways, etc., where open cutting is not an option. The bore installation consists of doing a jack-and-bore, directional bore or tunneling under the obstruction. A casing is often installed in jack-and-bore or directional bore operations, although some directional bore installations are casingless. After the bore is completed, conduits are assembled in the bore spacers and this assembly is pulled into the casing or hole. In a casing installation, the area between the conduits and the ID of the casing is usually filled with groute. Once the grout has cured, the cables are pulled through the conduits. In theory this procedure is fairly simple, but in actual practice it can be difficult to execute.
