Do you want us to include individual prices per each tree species? Even though all trees are to be 2” caliper B&B trees, some are more or less expensive than others, or are you seeking the best average price per tree planted? Answer: We want the best average price per tree planted; given the Tree List on page 7 of the Bid document. Bidders are to submit their pricing to the City on the Bid Schedule found on page 3 of the Bid document. Responsive bidders will submit only the two prices requested on the Bid Schedule. 2) Are sidewalk/street work permits and/or equipment permits required by the City for this type of work? If Yes; can you please tell me who I would be required to contact to inquire about cost for such permits? Answer: Right-of-way or equipment permits are not necessary for the planting work. Forestry will assign the work and track planting progress by entering the new trees into our inventory system. Each assignment will act as a planting permit. 3) Can we use an auger to dig holes or must they be hand dug? Answer: An auger can be used in areas where there are no conflicting utilities or irrigation systems. However, experience has shown that in most situations the use of an auger was not the best option. If an auger is used then special care to shape and scarify the sides of the planting pit must occur. Many of the planting spots will be over existing utilities and hand digging will be the best option. A combination of equipment and hand digging may be appropriate in some locations. 4) To water in the trees, can we use spigots on the houses that we are planting for or will we need a truck with a tank? If we need a tank, does the City provide the water or is that at the cost of the contractor? Answer: The City will not ask adjacent homeowners for permission to use their outdoor spigots; plan on using tanks to water trees in thoroughly at time of planting. The water will be at the contractor’s cost. 5) If the City supplies the trees, will they be delivered to each specific planting site or will the contractor be tasked with picking them up from a designated spot and transporting them to the sites? Answer: The contractor will, in most cases, pick the trees up from our holding yard or a 8453 Neighborhood Street Tree Planting Addendum 1 Questions & Answers Page 3 of 3 nursery. 6) Can we get clarification on item #29 on page 6 of the Bid document which states: “Work shall conform to City of Fort Collins traffic control requirements and all other rules and laws of the land.” Will traffic control be necessary for some of the plantings and if so will the cost need to be factored into the bid, or will the traffic control be supplied by the City of Fort Collins? Answer: Traffic control may be necessary on some work sites. It will be the contractor’s responsibility to line up traffic control through our City Streets Department. However, City Forestry will receive the invoices for such traffic control so will not be a cost to the contractor. Forestry staff must be informed of the need for traffic control prior to the actual date of work.
