Sturgeon Electric Inc. will provide a voice/data Cat-6 and Fiber backbone structured cabling system
installation for the following sections as identified below for the City of Fort Collins PD Campus West
Project. The design proposed by Sturgeon will utilize a star topology for the horizontal cabling. This is
consistent with the TIA/EIA 568B specification for structured building cabling. All 4-pair cabling will route
from the outlet directly to the nearest telecom room serving that area. Communication Cabling takeoffs were
extracted from PD Campus West Scopeofwork_07112017_V7

Voice/Data Horizontal Cabling
Sturgeon will install a total of seventy (70) Cat-6 plenum rated 4-pair cables to support all cabling
requirements for Voice/Data locations. The Cat-6 cable supplied will be manufactured by Commscope
Uniprise, part number 7504. All 4-pair station cabling will route from the faceplate to the designated TR. All
cabling distribution will route in trunks down major corridors in j hook pathway bundled with velcro .
Individual cable groups will then be placed from the main trunk at right angles into J-hook hangers mounted
to ceiling shot with a .22 Caliber power actuated tool to the outlet location. Sturgeon will assume that all
outlet boxes and conduit will be provided by others and that the conduit will stubbed into nearest accesible
ceiling space.

Voice/Data Horizontal Cabling Termination’s
At the faceplate, each voice and data Cat-6 cable will terminate on dedicated Cat-6 rated RJ-45 jacks
utilizing the 568B pinout scheme. At each station the individual cables will terminate on four port capacity
thermoplastic faceplates. Voice and data jacks will be white in color. Any locations with unfilled ports will
have dust covers installed.
At the Telecom Room. All voice and data cables will terminate on 48 port Cat-6 rated rack mounted patch
panels. The cables will be neatly routed and dressed down the wall and across ladder tray to the termination
point at the patch panels. Each cable will gradually sweep up to the termination point so as not to exceed the
allowable bend radius specified for gigaspeed cabling terminations.
Horizontal Cable Testing
Each Category 6 cable will be tested with a Fluke DTX tester. Tests performed will include length,
impedance, capacitance, attenuation and NEXT. Complete test results on CD will be provided to the owners
upon completion of installation.
Horizontal Cable Labeling
Each faceplate and jack as well as both ends of the cable itself (behind faceplate) will be labeled with
computer generated printed labels in accordance with a logical labeling scheme approved by the owners.
Additionally, each patch panel port will also be labeled utilizing computer generated labels with the
corresponding jack number.
Wireless Access Point Horizontal cabling
Sturgeon will install one (1) Category 6 cable to each of the two (2) WAP locations with a 20' coil on the
end of each cable. The cables will terminate on patch panels in the TR room and Cat-6 modular plug at the
station end. Each cable will be labeled at each end and on the patch panel. Cables will route overhead in the
same J-hooks as is used for the Voice and Data cables. Quantities of Cat-6 cables installed to each WAP are
included in the total Cat-6 cable count described above in Voice/Data Horizontal Cabling. Sturgeon will
install the mounting bracket and hang the wireless access point provided by City of Fort Collins and
patch into the respective jack.
Fiber Backbone Cabling
Sturgeon Electric will install one (1) 12 strand singlemode fiber optic non-armored plenum rated cable from
the IT room on the 1st floor to the Vault on City street corner. Singlemode fibers will be spliced to LC pigtail
adapter panels. One (1) fiber optic patch panel will be installed in telecom room with adapter panels in
quantities as needed for terminated fibers. Fiber Cable and Tracer Wire to be provided by City of Fort
Collins. Innerduct is excluded.
Fiber Cable Testing
After fiber connectors have been installed, (2) strands that were spliced by others will be tested using an
OTDR. Sturgeon will also test with an OTDR the remaining (10) strands verifying that the splice into the
rack mounted LIU was done correctly. Fibers will be tested in one direction with one window. Hard copy test
results to the owners upon completion of the project.
Patch cords
Sturgeon will supply the following patch cables. Installation of patch cords will be by others.
Twenty (62) Cat6 3' White Patch Cords
Twenty (20) Cat6 5' White Patch Cords
Twenty (20) Cat6 7' White Patch Cords
