Poudre River Trail Design - Modification
7/9/2020
Task Modification Description
The following scope of work is to include the design of natural areas trailhead and parking lot and access
trail over the ditch as an amendment to the Poudre River Trail Design Work Order. This includes
advancing designs of the current parking lot and trailhead design prepared by Interwest Consulting
Group, and pedestrian bridge design prepared by CTL Thompson to connect with the Poudre Trail. As part
of the updated scope of work, AECOM will update and revise the current design plans and include with the
final bid package being assembled as part of the Poudre River Trail Design task order.
Scope of Work
1. Design.
Parking lot design plans will be re-evaluated and included in AECOM 60% and Final Design packages.
Overall concept design will remain including the number of parking spaces, toilet, driveway access, and
trail width, but some design elements will be modified to align with best practices. The erosion control plan
will be re-evaluated and included in the AECOM 60% and Final Design packages.
Geotechnical report will be conducted in coordination with the pedestrian bridge design. Additional effort
required for field work will be coordinated with other planned geotechnical work planned to be conducted
as part of the Poudre Trail design project.
AECOM will design the abutments and the foundations for the pre-fabricated pedestrian bridge in
accordance with the latest AASHTO Guide Specifications for Pedestrian Bridges. Abutments are
assumed to be supported on shallow foundations, as recommended by the geotechnical discipline lead.
Abutment design will be based upon the design loads provided by the pre-fabricated pedestrian bridge
vendor. Live loads for the pedestrian bridge will be confirmed with City of Fort Collins management in
advance of the abutment design. An independent design calculation will be performed to confirm the
design loads and abutment design requirements.
2. Plan Preparation.
AECOM will prepare trail and pedestrian bridge plans to include the following: General Notes & Summary
of Quantities; Typical Sections, Parking Lot Layout, Profiles, Grading Plans and Water Quality Pond. The
pedestrian bridge plans will include Plan, Elevation and Typical Section; Geology Sheet (if warranted);
Bridge Foundation Layout; and Abutment Details. Estimated plan quantities will be based upon the plan
dimensions and cost estimates will be determined using the plan quantities and assumed unit prices. The
locations of the vault toilet and solar entry gates will be identified on the plans. It is assumed that the
design details and specifications for these elements will be provided by the City.
3. Project Special Provisions.
AECOM will prepare project special provisions for the parking lot, trailhead and pre-fabricated pedestrian
bridge and identify the standard project specifications required for the pedestrian bridge construction.
4. Task management and interdisciplinary coordination.
AECOM will integrate the pedestrian bridge design, trail design, hydraulics, geotechnical, and any
potential utility conflicts.

5. Submittals
• AECOM will submit the preliminary plans, draft outline project special provisions and construction
cost estimate for client review as part of the 60% design submittal. Client review comments will be
incorporated into the final design submittal.
• AECOM will submit the final plans, the project special provision and construction cost estimate for
client review. Client review comments will be incorporated into the advertisement package.
• AECOM will submit the advertisement plans and the project special provisions.
Exclusions/Clarifications
• Final design for the pedestrian bridge is contingent upon City of Fort Collins and Box Elder Ditch
Company approval of the preliminary plan submittal, final geotechnical recommendations and
hydraulic design requirements.
• Box Elder Ditch Company approval is to be obtained by City.
• Abutments will be supported on spread-footing foundations. Deep foundation requirements, if
recommended by the geotechnical discipline, may be additional work.
• Design for the 30-ft to 40-ft pre-fabricated pedestrian bridge will be performed by others.
• Design details and specifications for the vault toilets and solar entry gates will be provided by the City
• Landscaping will be limited to restoration of disturbed areas with non-irrigated native trees and
grasses.
Schedule
The overall impact of this modification will not affect the original schedule of the Poudre Trail Design Task
order.
Fee Estimate:
