Aquatic life data include 10 years of fish and macroinvertebrate data collected by Colorado State University’s Larval Fish and Environmental Health Services Laboratories from study sites on the mainstem lower Poudre River from Fort Collins to Greeley (see Table 1, Figure 2). Results of this review may be used by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) to help develop site specific temperature criteria for portions of the river. Task 1: Data Compilation and Analysis This task will include assembling (to the extent possible) available fish and macroinvertebrate data for the purpose of applying metrics designed to evaluate the overall health of aquatic communities for Segments 11 and 12 of the Poudre River. Metrics that may assist in the macroinvertebrate analysis will include: Diversity, HBI, EPT Taxa, Percent EPT, Percent Chironomidae, and Percent Non-Insect Taxa metrics. Individual macroinvertebrate taxa will also be considered in the evaluation of specific impacts from temperature on macroinvertebrate community structure. Fish data will be compiled and evaluated to determine the potential impacts of the recent temperature regime on fish species diversity and abundance. A review of thermal tolerances for the Poudre River's indigenous fish species will assist in evaluating the impacts that may be specifically attributed to temperature. The results from this evaluation will be compared to the temperature standards established by the Water Quality Control Commission. Task 2: Reporting The summary report will include an introduction, methods (that describe selected metrics), results, tables and figures, discussion, and references. The discussion will provide a summary of potential influences and impacts from the recent temperature regime on fish and macroinvertebrate communities. The summary report will also include any future monitoring recommendations. Task 3: Transfer of Electronic Data Transfer of electronic data will include a CD containing spreadsheets with historical data and the associated report.
