Paul Subject: Temporary Wall System for FCMuseum of Discovery Gerry Budget: $18,778.40 The City of Fort Collins Museum of Discovery (FCMoD) is requesting a sole source to MBA Design & Display's Mila Wall system to purchase a set of temporary, movable walls for use in the traveling exhibit gallery. These walls have an estimated life span of at least 15 years so they will form the backbone and adjust the use and design of the travelling exhibit gallery for years to come. The non-profit partner at the FCMoD is buying 2 sets so this would match there system. Mila-Wall is regarded by most of the museum industry as the leading product of its kind. No other product matches this one in terms of versatility, durability and aesthetic quality. There are other wall makers there, but none of them offer all of the benefits that this one does. Specifically: 1. They are used in virtually endless configurations because of the way the connectors are designed. Most other wall systems are fairly rigid in this area, capable of mainly right angles and straight lines. 2. This products is unmatched in terms of sustainability -- designed for use over decades, with the ability to be repainted and refinished, and a highly durable metal core that ensures no variance in shape/trueness. Having a system like this also means that the museum can significantly reduce our need for temporary sheetrock walls, and saving costs and environmental impact. 3. The system is user-friendly, and that ease -of -use translates to reduced labor time. a. Mila walls are capable of carrying heavy loads, suitable for hanging heavy artwork and display elements — a must for FCMoD. 5. The walls are wood -faced with metal framing, but have hollow channels to allow for running electrical wiring. 6. The long track record of MBA as a company means that additional parts (should we wish to expand inventory down the road) will be readily available. 7. MBA offers a portable custom storage unit that is specifically designed for this product. 8. Aesthetically, Mila walls appear to be actual walls. No visible connectors or hardware at the seams or base of unit. Many other wall systems require unsightly joints, extenders and feet for stability.
