EXHIBIT 1 – QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
BID 7585 Poudre Trail at Mulberry & Lemay Page 2 of 2
1. Question: Concerns with the 12” requirement for the top of deck to low steel
dimension for span 2. If we have to keep the HSS 10”x10” top and bottom chords
and an 8’-10” tall truss dimension to match the existing bridge the 12” dimension is
virtually impossible to meet and keep an acceptable U-Frame.
Answer: Although a larger tube size is preferred for aesthetic reasons, the
bottom chord of the new bridge truss may be changed to a tube size of
the contractor/fabricator's choice. The 12" deck-to-bottom-of-steel
dimension is critical over the pedestrian trail only. Truss members may
project below the 12" envelope other than over the pedestrian
trail. Pedestrian bridge shop drawing shall clearly indicate the steel
structure depths over the pedestrian trail.
2. Question: Will the bridge be reviewed by CDOT?
Answer: The pedestrian bridge shop drawings will not be reviewed by CDOT, but
will be reviewed by City of Fort Collins.
3. Clarification: Minor modifications to the prefabricated truss framing from that
depicted on the design plans will be allowed in order to achieve the 12" envelope
and a structurally adequate truss configuration including:
Floor beams may frame into the sides of the bottom chords.
Floor beams may be "underhung" other than over pedestrian trail.
Metal decking and concrete topping assembly may be shallower than 6" as
long as design is code-compliant.
Stiffeners in the lower portions of the truss may be added.
