PAST EXPERIENCE
Our subcontractor partner sold and installed the first Oracle Database Appliance for Oracle in
November 2011. The two engineers who worked on that installation were William Klope and
Mike Whitmore, both who are targeted to address the installation of this project. Prior to that
installation, they have worked on a beta version of the ODA called Comet during the
August/September 2011 timeframe. Since then, they've installed and configured 25 ODA units
across 15 customers.

Performance Tuning Experience
• CallSource — Architected the Installation and configuration of Oracle Database Appliance (2011).
2014, again, architected the installation, configuration, migration and DR for 2nd ODA.
Dewey Pest Control — The customer has Oracle E-Business Suite installed on Sun hardware.
When we reviewed the Oracle database environment, the customer was rebooting the server
daily. Even the most basic reports would case the database server to freeze. Within 2 weeks, we
made a number of changes within the database environment that fixed the problem with rebooting
and performance was increased by 500%. Total length of time of entire tuning process took
roughly 12 months.
• US Search (First Advantage) — US Search was running an 8i database in a Sun server and Hitachi
SAN environment. We recommended the customer changes to the SAN environment, Sun O/S
configuration changes, a series of database changes and SQL tuning. Used stored outline on
some cursors to influence the database into using better execution paths.
• XDrive (AOL) — The customer's production environment was an Oracle 8i database running
against a external disk subsystem. When we started, the CPU utilization was at 90% all the time.
First day on site found that one table had incorrect statistics causing most SQLs against this table
to not use the defined index. Fixed the statistics and found an immediate drop in CPU
utilization to well under 20% on the server.
• CPU utilization returned to a comfortable 10%. We also have been involved in database
structural redesign to follow Oracle best practices.
• VCA (Veterinarian Centers of America). 8i Tuning Work completed recently in 2005.
• eHarmony — Involved in schema design stage for move to Oracle RAC from SQL Server.
Including when to use partitioning, partitioned indexes, reverse key indexes; other tricks to avoid
block contention in a RAC environment. SQL tuning during pre -production load testing and
during subsequent application development.
• Robbins Brothers — Customized AOL environment that did not run well in a RAC environment.
Found numerous cases where proper indexes fixed slow custom SQLs.
• Basepoint — Company that develops specialized software for the financial industry. An
application used for ATM fraud detection was not responding quick enough for their customer.
The software queried a 400 million row transaction table. Customer required sub -second
response, but response was taking about 6 seconds. Worked with the developers to redesign the
table and use hints in their SQL to assure consistent execution paths for their SQL.
• Networks In Motion — Worked with their development team to speed up processing. Found that
their application did not connection pool and under load the database could not respond quick

enough. The application could not be changed, so implemented Oracle Shared Server to meet
customer requirements.
• Rotohog — Rollout of new software was running too slow during busiest time period on Sunday.
Changed Oracle Resource Manager so built-in database maintenance routines did not run during
their busiest hours. Had development team force usage of bind variables. Made
recommendations on how to tune certain slow SQLs. Recommended upgrade of base level
Oracle software to a newer version.
• WMC — Same SQLs were running very fast sometimes, and slow on others. Found different
execution paths on different instances of the RAC. Tuned SQL by creating indexes and putting
hints into the cursor to stabilize the execution path.
• MyLife — Database was experiencing intermittent slowdowns whereby CPU and load average
would spike causing site outage. All signs pointed towards disk I/O problems occurring.
Initially set out to mitigate the issue by tuning SQL using indexes and stored outlines, moving
certain jobs to off peak hours, moving other jobs to other databases. Worked with other
departments and with SUN, to diagnose a bug with the UFS file system causing the problems.

Our experience with the Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) goes back to its introduction about
2.5 years ago. We are fully certified, it is one of our specialties as list above, and we have
implemented a number of ODAs. However, none are similar to your project so we are
partnering with Cloud Creek Systems, Inc. as listed in our bid response. Cloud Creek has
dozens of implementations of the same scope as the City of Fort Collins and we feel they are
the perfect partner to execute on this implementation to your complete satisfaction.
Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your Oracle Database Appliance bid. We look
forward to a successful implementation.
Sincerely, aj
