What type of city functions would a translator do? A few examples—a translator might translate documents such as notices of public meetings or written documents describing a City-related process, like the process of applying for a building permit. 2. What type of city functions would a interpreters do? A few examples—an interpreter might provide interpretive services for individuals who have limited English proficiency and attend a public meeting seeking public input about a master transportation development plan or about a plan to build a new City structure or facility. 3. What type of city functions would a bilingual person do? A bilingual employee or contractor might perform the examples above or other functions such as interpreting for a defendant who appears for arraignment in municipal court. 4. In your language assessment do you require the vendor to test and see if your bilingual Spanish employees have the linguistic proficiency to communicate with Spanish speaking city customers concerning a problem with a city service? The City is seeking proposals for services, in part, aimed at testing or assessing the language ability of City employees and contractors it asks to perform various functions consistent with those described in the above examples.
