Questions / Clarifications Item Area Drawing/ Component Questions A General Financial Will the City require a Financial Statement to be included with our proposal? Yes 1 General AV Hardware Would it be possible to get a copy of Zone 0- General as a CAD file? It is very difficult to read and scale as a PDF for AV Integration estimating. The CAD file of the master plan (approx.36MB) will be provided by separate correspondence. 2 General AV Hardware Can you please clarify what is meant by “hookup/plugin” on the Zone 0 plans? "HOOKUP" 0.2.2 & 0.2.3 means an exhibit that likely will plug-in directly to a standard electrical outlet. Is this a part of the AV scope? Yes. 3 General AV Hardware Will source equipment be centralized, or local to the exhibits? Equipment will be localized, and will also have Ethernet connectivity for on/ off control and for data feeds in the case of the Arrow- Rez media systems. 4 General AV Hardware How will power management be handled? Exhibit power will be controlled via Ethernet signal from a central show controller for day to day operation as well as special event presets. 5 General AV Hardware Can you provide cut sheets for the HP OFE? The selected bidder will be furnished with the info after selection. 6 General AV Hardware Will the OFE include mounts? Yes. Cabling? Yes, only cables that come standard with equipment. 7 General AV Hardware Will HP supply any and all specified projectors and large format monitors, or will those fall in the AV scope? HP will not provide projectors (10.12 Funky Forest), Large monitors (1.11 Media Theater, 10.4 Media Wall) These are in Fab. and/or fab. subcontractor scope. 8 General AV Hardware Is there a spec for the Digital Audio Players? No spec. Fabricator to source. Are these players and amplifiers supposed to be housed in the speaker boxes or elsewhere in the exhibits? Sound source to be in the speaker boxes, ideally. For example, exhibit # Biodiversity 4.3.0, drawing 4.3.14.D19 9 General AV Hardware Who is responsible for network infrastructure? Owner. 10 General AV Hardware What is meant by “bar speaker”? Is this the Brown Maestro? Yes. 11 Music and Sound Giant Piano Lever May multiple fixed locations for pull cords be substituted for an adjustable pull cord? The preferred design is shown. Multiple pull-chords create more obstacles for visitors and also allow more people to pull at once, which is not the intended experience. The mechanism was inspired by the one in the lobby at Pacific Science Center, Seattle. 12 Music and Sound Giant Piano Lever Giant Piano Key Interactive: Is a purely mechanical solution required, or is a combination electrical/mechanical solution also acceptable (i.e., sensor with motors, etc). Purely mechanical. 13 Music and Sound Sound Spots Can you specify what level of assistance will be required for Mr. Janney, or should we stipulate an allowance? Team has not worked out a detailed plan with Mr. Janney. Allow for some interface. 14 Music and Sound Media Enclosure Are there specifications related to light and sound limits/parameters on the enclosure structure provided by Fabricator? There are no specifications. The intent is to create the best sound and light isolation for these and future exhibit experiences without creating a room with doors. There are many adjacent exhibits to the Media Enclosure, all of which will add to the ambient sound outside and the need for the enclosed spaces inside. 15 Music and Sound The Garage Are there specifications related to light and sound limits/parameters on the enclosure structure provided by Fabricator? There are no specifications. The programming in this space may include the use of real instruments (including drums and electric guitars) and other amplification. The enclosure is meant to create the best isolation for this exhibit and those immediately adjacent to it, including the Melodic Percussion booth. 16 Music and Sound Fort Collins Music Story Can the headphones be off-the-shelf units that are considered consumables? Ideally, the headphones would be either of a good quality off-the-shelf models and/ or be hardened to best withstand typical (rugged) use by museum visitors. The connection of the cable to the headphone and the jack are typical weak points that may need strengthening or strain-relief solutions to be worked out with you. 17 Music and Sound Fort Collins Music Story Can the iPods be off-the-shelf units that are considered consumables? Yes. 18 Music and Sound technologies? No. 22 Music and Sound Media Theater Who provides playback source? Owner. 23 Music and Sound Drums, Strings, Horns Is there a touch screen with this exhibit? No. 24 Music and Sound Listening Lounge What is the Headphone System, what is its source? See Answer to #16 above. 26 Music and Sound Listening Lounge Is the fabricator responsible for specifying and purchasing subwoofer? Yes. 27 Music and Sound Percussion Booth Where do you see the LED lights- on the instruments, on a wall graphic? Immediately adjacent to the individual sound bar of the instrument. Will it be 5 or 12? (12) LED's should be programmable to correlate to screen information (i.e which of the 12 notes are being selected to create different scales). Would displaying the notes on the screen be an acceptable alternative? Not ideally, no. 28 Music and Sound Percussion Booth Designer will need to provide more detail as to exactly which marimbas, xylophone etc to buy; otherwise fab to supply allowance. For now please use an allowance. 29 Music and Sound Percussion Booth Will the percussive physical devices or instruments have half notes in addition to whole notes – notes outside the pentatonic scale? Yes, all 12 notes of a complete octave will be represented. The LED's will indicate which of the notes create the target scale, or scale options. 30 Music and Sound Percussion Booth 33 Music and Sound Music Innovation Wall What speakers are required, what is their source? A.Glass Harmonica-no speaker; B. Theremin-Speaker for playback and for video audio output; C. BeamZ-speaker for audio output. Fabricator to provide and integrate into casework. What exactly is the scope of media production by the Fabricator? Media production for Theremin video, per Media Description, there are three media choices listed. There will NOT be a camera and playback, however. 34 Early Childhood Musical Water Cube Creating an audible acoustic experience that can be heard in a children's activity area with its inherent noise levels that is "not overly noisy or cacophonous" may be mutually exclusive. Given that the sounds will emanate from within the cube, and therefore be buffered by the enclosure, the challenge will be being heard, rather than creating too much noise. Will any target audio ranges be provided? No specific audio ranges will be provided. See below for more on types of sound. 35 Early Childhood Musical Water Cube Are the acoustic sound experiences all required to be "melodic" in nature? Is buzzing or hissing of water striking an object satisfactory for one type of acoustical experience? (This would be helpful to know before prototyping.) They can be any combination of sounds from percussive to melodic or both. I'm thinking wind chimes, clanging spoons, etc. 36 Early Childhood Musical Water Cube Are all the water jets 'always on,' or is there a valve or switch at each control stick? The exhibit this is based on had a continuous water stream at each nozzle. the interaction was only in directing the flow. 37 Wildlife & Wildlands Fossil Wall At what time during fabrication does the Owner expect to be able to identify all the Owner- provided buyout components that will determine final dimensions and arrangement of case? Timing to be coordinated with selected fabricator. 38 Wildlife & Wildlands Spotting Scopes & Field Guides Without specific direction on how Owner wants to "exhibit harden" the buyout binoculars the Fabricator will consider these items to be consumables or, if required, will provide an allowance for hardening only. Tether only, provide replacement for each of (2). 39 First Peoples American Indian Perspectives Please clarify exactly what is expected by the term "reclaimed" wood stumps. Per the drawing, these are just cut logs with the bark on. Will these stumps require insect or fire retardant treatments of any type? Yes, insect free, please. No fire retardant. 41 Food, Forage & Farm Home & Hearth Do the digital picture frames provided by Owner also have a wood frame shroud? Is this wood frame applied to the face of the digital frame or is it a complete housing? The frame provided will have a variety of frame styles. Fab. to secure to wall and rout and manage cables and power supplies within the chases indicated in 6.6.5. No additional frames are required. 42 Food, Forage & Farm Local Brewing What is the tap interface? How does it connect with the CPU? Is an I/O module required? Fabricator to develop this mechanical/ electrical interface. This an addition to scope. 43 Water Flood Experience Is the lighting controllable? The lighting will not change as part of the Flood Experience. Levels will be set by the lighting designer during installation and focus. Can you confirm that owner is providing all video assets? Yes. 44 Water Flood Experience What are the displays for the ambient video? There is only one video monitor in the Flood Experience. The program may have a loop mode until the program is triggered by visitor proximity. There is ambient audio. We assume this is projection? NA 45 Energy & Sustainability Historic Bulbs Will the bulbs on push buttons have 'time out' and 'lockout' feature? If so, a control box will be necessary. Access panel in platform? The alternative is bulb on direct switch. Bulb on direct switch, momentary contact. 46 Energy & Sustainability Heat Detective Do you have an approximate number of different "zones" and/or materials you would like to be measured by the IR guns? There could be (12) windows with single pane or insulated glass, the (4) exterior wall could be insulated or not, the roof could have 1/2 the surfaces insulated, 1/2 not. 47 Schatz Science Experience Media Wall Is any integration or coordination required of the Fabricator for the Owner-provided additional equipment from Snibbe? Fort Collins Museum of Discovery - Media Production Questions - Responses Music & Sound 40 First Peoples American Indian Perspectives American Indian Perspectives: Please specify any preferences for type of locally-sourced stone used for "stone circle." Local stone to be coordinated with owner-not sandstone. Can the rocks be ground/milled/cleaved flat on both sides. The stones should be cut/ ground/ milled on one side so as to appear to be partially 'in the ground' as they might naturally appear. For example, will the buff sandstone available from the Masonville quarries be satisfactory? No. Will the sequencing and selection of notes in the pentatonic scale be hard wired into the software or should we include a value added option to have some flexibility in the programming so the museum can set the notes that highlight the LEDS in sequence? There should be more than one option for the visitors to choose from in the program selection. 31 Music and Sound Percussion Booth We assume that the user will have an onscreen option to play individually and add and hear others as well? The instruments sound acoustically, so all can be heard equally and without amplification or muting. However, each screen will have a 'leader' button to enable one person to set the scale and/ or other parameters. 32 Music and Sound Music Innovation Wall Are amplifiers and speakers in Fab scope? Yes. Sound Edison to Ipods How is the interactive touchscreen program integrated into the wax cylinder exhibit? The media serves to interpret the display case to the right, not the wax cylinder/ victrola interactive. Does it supply the sound clips for the recording? No. 19 Music and Sound Edison to Ipods How many selections would be needed per era? How long is a segment? How should the media producer account for rights and licensing fees? Can this be an allowance? (1) per era, 35 second duration, Fab. to account for rights and fees. 20 Music and Sound Edison to Ipods In some cases recordings for some of the earliest devices may not exist. In that case could we simulate them? Yes, if needed. 21 Music and Edison to Ipods Would it be valuable to have one of the recording choices or sounds be the same across
