Questions
A General Financial Will the City require a Financial Statement to be included with our proposal? Yes
1 General AV Hardware
Would it be possible to get a copy of Zone 0- General as a CAD file? It is very difficult to read
and scale as a PDF for AV Integration estimating. The CAD file of the master plan (approx.36MB)
will be provided by separate correspondence.
2 General AV Hardware
Can you please clarify what is meant by “hookup/plugin” on the Zone 0 plans? "HOOKUP" 0.2.2
& 0.2.3 means an exhibit that likely will plug-in directly to a standard electrical outlet. Is this a part
of the AV scope? Yes.
3 General AV Hardware
Will source equipment be centralized, or local to the exhibits? Equipment will be localized, and
will also have Ethernet connectivity for on/ off control and for data feeds in the case of the Arrow-
Rez media systems.
4 General AV Hardware
How will power management be handled? Exhibit power will be controlled via Ethernet signal
from a central show controller for day to day operation as well as special event presets.
5 General AV Hardware
Can you provide cut sheets for the HP OFE? The selected bidder will be furnished with the info
after selection.
6 General AV Hardware
Will the OFE include mounts? Yes. Cabling? Yes, only cables that come standard with
equipment.
7 General AV Hardware
Will HP supply any and all specified projectors and large format monitors, or will those fall in the
AV scope? HP will not provide projectors (10.12 Funky Forest), Large monitors (1.11 Media
Theater, 10.4 Media Wall) These are in Fab. and/or fab. subcontractor scope.
8 General AV Hardware
Is there a spec for the Digital Audio Players? No spec. Fabricator to source. Are these players
and amplifiers supposed to be housed in the speaker boxes or elsewhere in the exhibits? Sound
source to be in the speaker boxes, ideally. For example, exhibit # Biodiversity 4.3.0, drawing
4.3.14.D19
9 General AV Hardware Who is responsible for network infrastructure? Owner.
10 General AV Hardware What is meant by “bar speaker”? Is this the Brown Maestro? Yes.

Giant Piano
Lever
May multiple fixed locations for pull cords be substituted for an adjustable pull cord? The
preferred design is shown. Multiple pull-chords create more obstacles for visitors and also allow
more people to pull at once, which is not the intended experience. The mechanism was inspired
by the one in the lobby at Pacific Science Center, Seattle.

Giant Piano Key Interactive: Is a purely mechanical solution required, or is a combination

Media
Enclosure
Are there specifications related to light and sound limits/parameters on the enclosure structure
provided by Fabricator? There are no specifications. The intent is to create the best sound and
light isolation for these and future exhibit experiences without creating a room with doors. There
are many adjacent exhibits to the Media Enclosure, all of which will add to the ambient sound
outside and the need for the enclosed spaces inside.
15
Music and
Sound
The Garage
Are there specifications related to light and sound limits/parameters on the enclosure structure
provided by Fabricator? There are no specifications. The programming in this space may include
the use of real instruments (including drums and electric guitars) and other amplification. The
enclosure is meant to create the best isolation for this exhibit and those immediately adjacent to it,
including the Melodic Percussion booth.

Can the headphones be off-the-shelf units that are considered consumables? Ideally, the
headphones would be either of a good quality off-the-shelf models and/ or be hardened to best
withstand typical (rugged) use by museum visitors. The connection of the cable to the headphone
and the jack are typical weak points that may need strengthening or strain-relief solutions to be
worked out with you.

create different scales). Would displaying the notes on the screen be an acceptable alternative?
Not ideally, no.

Creating an audible acoustic experience that can be heard in a children's activity area with its
inherent noise levels that is "not overly noisy or cacophonous" may be mutually exclusive. Given
that the sounds will emanate from within the cube, and therefore be buffered by the enclosure, the
challenge will be being heard, rather than creating too much noise. Will any target audio ranges
be provided? No specific audio ranges will be provided. See below for more on types of sound.

Musical Water

Are the acoustic sound experiences all required to be "melodic" in nature? Is buzzing or hissing
of water striking an object satisfactory for one type of acoustical experience? (This would be
helpful to know before prototyping.) They can be any combination of sounds from percussive to
melodic or both. I'm thinking wind chimes, clanging spoons, etc.

American Indian Perspectives: Please specify any preferences for type of locally-sourced stone
used for "stone circle." Local stone to be coordinated with owner-not sandstone. Can the rocks be
ground/milled/cleaved flat on both sides. The stones should be cut/ ground/ milled on one side so
as to appear to be partially 'in the ground' as they might naturally appear. For example, will the
buff sandstone available from the Masonville quarries be satisfactory? No.
Will the sequencing and selection of notes in the pentatonic scale be hard wired into the
software or should we include a value added option to have some flexibility in the programming so
the museum can set the notes that highlight the LEDS in sequence? There should be more than
one option for the visitors to choose from in the program selection.
