SPECIFICATIONS AND CONTRACT DOCUMENTS
Description of RFP 7184: Discovery Museum Exhibit Fabrication
OPENING DATE: 3:00 P.M. (Our Clock) February 25, 2011
To all prospective bidders under the specifications and contract documents described
above, the following additions are hereby made.
• The opening date has been changed from February 22, 2011 to February 25,
2011.
• The last day to submit questions is February 15, 2011 5:00 p.m..
This addendum contains the following:

1 General Bid Bond The form needed for the Bid Bond is attached.
2 General Evaluation Team
The Evaluation Team is comprised of: Annette Gieselmen, Cheryl Donaldson, Brent
Carmack, Jason Wolvington, Jill Stilwell, Ron Davis, Jeanne Shoaf, Dennis Meyer, John
Stephen & Ron Kechter.
3 General LEED Certification
The project is shooting to attain LEED Platinum certification, but due to timing we will not be
able to include the Fabricator's sustainability measures with our submission. However, we
still expect the Fabricator to be sustainable, as called out in the RFP.
4 General Media
The media content will be updated by the Museum Staff. The Museum Staff will also perform
editing and post production development.
5 General Exhibit Buyouts
The Museum or Gyroscope will provide the contacts for exhibit buyouts from other sources.
Please provide requests for the contacts you need that are not readily available from the
information we have already provided.
6 General Warranties
The Warranties for buyout/purchased items will be supported by the Fabricator duing the first
year, along with their materials and workmanship warranty. If purchased items have
Warranties that go beyond the first year, the Museum will work directly with the manufacturer.
7 General Access Floor Attached are the data sheets for the access flooring that provide the allowable loading.
8 General Archive Cases
Glass should be priced as specified; no need for starfire or anti-glare tempered glass. Labels
for the artifacts will be provided by the Owner.
9 General Touch Screen Monitors
Some have shrouds to enclose, some do not; if not clear in the drawings, request
clarification.
10 General Technical Components
Owner will provide technical components, as specified. Fabricator will need to work with
Owner to facilitate fabrication; the Owner intends to provide one of each type for the
Fabricator's use.

Contractor
Attached is a spreadsheet that outlines interface areas. Coordination with the GC will be
through Ron Kechter.
12 General Value Engineering
We request you follow the plans for the purposes of your proposal, but keep track of value
engineering opportunities.
13 General Aluminum Cut-out Letters These letters should be 1/4" thickness, matte finish and welded to an aluminum strip.

Any details on costing should be included as a backup to the cost sheet outlined in the
drawings.
15 General Refurbishment Scopes Mr. Bones - requires new bicycles and update of exhibit electronics.

Music wall soundproofing panels should be fabricated using duct liner, unless the Fabricator
can determine a better alternative. Piano and performance area is elseware. Walls not at
the perimeter are the responsibility of the Fabricator.
21 Zone 1 1.25.0
The Overhead Door is operated by an electric garage door opener. The interactive can be
directly purchased from Exporitorium, but their geometry may need to be modified. Add a
sneeze guard to protect the screen.
22 Zone 1 1.29.0 The Juke Box is screwed to the wall.

Whimsical Water is provided by the Fabricator; water fill will be without plumbing; power is
provided.

Tree canopy is printed on vinyl. Coordinate location of tree with light fixtures and match
shape.
25 Zone 2 2.6.0 The non-slip epoxy surface is in the Fabricator's scope.
26 Zone 2 2.11.0 Metal scrim is needed for the Wind Chime Babies.
27 Zone 3 3.1.0-3.1.6
A 4" hole is provided in the building glass for the bee tube to pass through. Material for the
hexagon structure is recommended to be appleply. Use a standare bee frame so Museum
Staff can place hive on a cart and go outside.
28 Zone 3 3.2.0-3.2.9
The animanl habitats are to be pet store style; flexibility is the key. These enclosures will be
outfitted by the Museum Staff. Recommend construction with appleply.
29 Zone 3 3.4.0 Pin specimens are by Owner.
30 Zone 4 4.0.0 The Fabricator will not be providing any of the taxidermy or fossil items.
31 Zone 4 4.1.0-4.1.3 The projection globe is a Global Imaginations stock image.

The large skeleton will be purchaced by the Museum and the Fabricator is to install. The
Fabricator must coordinate shipping to Fort Collins with the Project Manager.
33 Zone 4 4.3.15 The short grass is a replica.

The bison and the skeleton will be purchaced by the Museum and the Fabricator is to install.
The Fabricator must coordinate shipping to Fort Collins with the Project Manager. It needs to
look like prarie under the Bison.
35 Zone 5 5.1.1 This exhibit requires a wall panel system.
36 Zone 5 5.2.4 Include table and cone in scope; cone is on scrim.

The linear irrigator will be installed through a combination of the General Contractor, Valley
Irrigation and the Museum Staff. There is no responsibility of the Fabricator for this
installation. The Fabricator will need to coordinate graphic 6.1.1 installation with the irrigator
and wall finish work.
38 Zone 6 6.1.1 This graphic does not show up in the graphics schedule, but is clarified by Item 59 below.

The artifacts that are standing up with points on them are not a safety concern, since they are
tall enough to be out of reach.

The beet interactive is intended to be composed of the following: beets are turned wood;
tops are fabric; and the two halves are held together by magnets.
41 Zone 6 6.6.0 The case is custom built, not a buyout item.

Media for this exhibit is by the Owner. Fabricator is to do the wiring and build it according to
plans. Taps with appliques are by the Fabricator, plus the technology.

Fabricator is to make parts for the table game; Owner will provide details for custom camp
parts.

The Museum will provide the location of the cameras for the video of trains outside. The
Fabricator will need to coordinate the location of the conduit to be supplied by the General
Contractor for the motion sensor, soon after Award, with the Project Manager.

The rising of the water in the water wall will need to be rapid and tied to the presentation for
timing; sycroniztion could be with a media signal or a timer.
47 Zone 9 9.11.0 The PV Panel is by the Owner.

Fabricator constructs LED Media Wall enclosure and coordinates the installation of the flat
screen.
49 Zone 10 10.5.0 Fabricator installs equipment and provides 36 pucks. The veriscope is stationary.

Fabricator constructs wall and installs metal cladding. Interactive is by Creative Machines,
through the Owner's contract with Gyroscope.

The Funky Forest is to be purchased by the Fabricator from the Subcontractor and the
Fabricator must obtain a quote from the Subcontractor directly.

54 Zone 12 12.2.1 The Atomic Clock is wireless.

The Owner will have the Vestas Blade installed on the in-ground structure. The Fabricator is
to fabricate and install the coweling over the end of the blade.

from DPI in Toledo, OH; it replaces ABS Sintra as a backing material for these graphics.

KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS: that we, the undersigned _____________________

bound unto the City of Fort Collins, Colorado, as OWNER, in the sum of

THE CONDITION of this obligation is such that whereas the Principal has submitted to the City
of Fort Collins, Colorado the accompanying Bid and hereby made a part hereof to enter into a
Construction Agreement for the construction of Fort Collins Project, RFP 7184 DISCOVERY
MUSEUM EXHIBIT FABRICATION
NOW THEREFORE,
(a) If said Bid shall be rejected, or
(b) If said Bid shall be accepted and the Principal shall execute and deliver a Contract in the
form of Contract attached hereto (properly completed in accordance with said Bid) and
shall furnish a BOND for his faithful performance of said Contract, and for payment of all
persons performing labor or furnishing materials in connection therewith, and shall in all
other respects perform the Agreement created by the acceptance of said Bid, then this
obligation shall be void; otherwise the same shall remain in force and effect, it being
expressly understood and agreed that the liability of the Surety for any and all claims
hereunder shall, in no event, exceed the penal amount of this obligation as herein
stated.
The Surety, for value received, hereby stipulates and agrees that the obligations of said Surety
and its BOND shall be in no way impaired or affected by any extension of the time within which
the OWNER may accept such Bid; and said Surety does hereby waive notice of any such
extension.
Surety Companies executing bonds must be authorized to transact business in the State of
Colorado and be accepted by the OWNER.
