The artist/team will work with the Project Team to develop the artistic vision and concepts for art for the remodel of the Main Library in Fort Collins, Colorado. SCOPE OF WORK The City of Fort Collins, Colorado, Art in Public Places Program and the Poudre River Public Library District is seeking an artist/team to collaborate with the Project Team on concepts for site -specific artwork(s) for the remodel of the Main Library Project. The selected artist(s) will identify and design, fabricate and install an artistic experience that engages the community. Artist(s) should demonstrate: • A proven ability to successfully develop and lead art concepts within a collaborative design team process; • Successful completion of public art projects on schedule and within budget; • The ability to communicate ideas in written, oral and graphic formats. The contract's scope of work will require the artist to serve as a member of the Project Team and to create a concept for art which meets the goals of the project. BACKGROUND The Poudre River Public Library District Board of Trustees formally adopted a master facilities plan in July 2009. It called for a remodel and modest expansion of the Main Library by filling in the space underneath the overhangs and relocating Administrative and Systems Administration staff to an offske facility so that a net gain of 9,000 sq feet for public space is achieved. The new total sq. footage for the remodeled library with enclosed overhangs is approximately 40,387. PROJECT VISION The District's overall goal for this expansion/remodel is to create a modem, fresh, comfortable environment. Specifically, our vision is to: • Create exciting browsing collections in prime areas • Provide user-friendly technology throughout the library • Create spaces that are social and comfortable for different age groups • Visually appealing and intuitive layout — clear wayfinding • Maximizing use of natural light with varied task and ambient lighting • Active merchandising approach for easy browsing The artist(s) will collaborate with the Project Team to develop the artistic vision for this exciting project. Approval is required at each project phase in order for work to proceed to the next phase. The goal of this project is to create site -specific artwork(s) that meets the goal of this project. The Main Library and the related artwork are intended to be a permanent addition to the Poudre River Library District. The artwork(s) must be durable, energy efficient, low maintenance, and appropriate for the users and the location. The Main Library is located at 201 Peterson Street, Fort Collins, CO 70524 Link: httD://www.Doudrelibraties.orL/locatioiish-emodel PROPOSED PROJECT SCHEDULE November — December 2011 — Preliminary Design January 2012 - Final Design May 2012 — Art Installation June 2012 — Facility Grand Opening ELIGIBILITY This project is open to all Colorado professional artists, legally residing in and authorized to work in the United States. Artist(s) must be able to work effectively and collaboratively with the project's design team. The artist will work with a Project Team selected by the Poudre River Library District. BUDGET This budget is all-inclusive. The budget includes all costs associated with the project including, but not limited to: artist's design fee, travel, materials, engineering, permitting (if needed), systems coordination, fabrication costs, documentation, and transportation and installation of work. The total amount shall be up to $35,000. ARTIST SELECTION PROCESS A selection committee may consist of members of the Project Team, Poudre River Library District board members, staff, local artist, and a City Purchasing Department representative. The committee will review application materials and make a final recommendation. The selection committee reserves the right to reject any or all entries at any time in the review and selection process. An artist, or artist team, may be chosen during an initial review process or after an interview process. The artist(s) will be awarded a design contract with the Poudre River Library District. The artist(s) will work with the Project Team to develop art concepts for the site. If the artist(s) concepts are approved, the artist(s) will create a detailed proposal, budget and timeline for construction of the art element(s). Subject to final approval, the artist may then be awarded an art construction contract for this project. SELECTION CRITERIA The artist(s) will be selected based on the following criteria: • Quality and strength of past work as demonstrated in the submitted application materials. • Ability to create distinctive, engaging artwork appropriate in concepts, materials and scale for this project. • Previous experience in working collaboratively with design teams. • Availability to start design work immediately.
