The City of Fort Collins is rejecting your bid for traffic signal poles for being non
responsive. Per the specification, the poles were to be galvanized and powder coated
dark bronze. You firm took exception to that specification and supplied a "wet coat
paint'.
A thorough review of the product is not an option at this time given the tight time frames
in which we need to order and receive the signal poles. But for the future, the City would
like to visit site locations where the proposed Millerbond paint system has been used on
poles installed for more that 5 years. Please supply Britney Sorensen at
bsorensen(o)fcgov.com a list of local sites.
If you have further questions, please contact John Stephen, Senior Buyer at 970-221-

Sincerely,
a IL—

Subject: Signal Pole Bid 7345
Hi John,
The bid submitted by Graybar (Millerbernd) was the lowest bid but they requested an exception.
Our experience with painted poles is that they do not maintain their finish as well as the powder
coated product does. As such, I do not feel that we can accept a product with a finish that we
have no experience with. A thorough review of the product is not an option at this time given the
tight time frames in which we need to order and receive the signal poles. If Millerbernd can
supply poles with a powder coated finish, in the same time frame and for the same price as
quoted, then I would be willing to accept their bid.
Because a more durable finish is always an option that we would consider, I would propose that
we start a test and review process to determine if the Millerbond paint system (or any epoxy
system) is indeed superior to the powder coated system we have been using. Such a review
should include site visits to locations where the Millerbond paint system has been used on poles
installed for more than 5 years.
Please let me know if you need anything else
