PROJECT
DESCRIPTION
The Art in Public Places Program of Fort Collins, Colorado is requesting artist qualifications in an open
competition for artists/teams to create a mural on an east facing concrete wall adjacent to a skatepark that is
sited north of the Northside Aztlan Community Center. The concrete wall measures 736 square feet with a
total length of 44' and height of 20: The wall is 20' in length before the wall starts to slope down toward the
south, and ends at 8' in height. The proposed mural must cover at least 75% of the wall space. The artist will
be required to engage the skateboard community in the design and possibly the painting of the mural. We are
looking for murals that are visually active/busy, so as not to leave large open spaces. The design will need to
be picture -based, not word -based. Designs will not be accepted if they include logos, copyrighted or trademarked
images, advertisements, offensive language, political, commercial, religious, sexual, or gang symbols, themes or
messages, or promote the use of illegal substances.
The main goal of this project is to promote the healthy aspects inherent in outdoor recreation centers by
promoting ownership of the facility among the Skatepark community that uses it.
Safety & Durability - The work is intended to be a permanent addition to the City of Fort Collins. Design
and installation must consider that the work will be situated in a public location and subject to the elements
and potential vandalism.
