Project Summary
Objective
To design and fabricate a moveable and versatile gallery wall system
Goals
Gallery walls will be lightweight, provide maximum flexibility and function well for the gallery.
Solution
Design is contingent upon readily available materials, workplace efficiency, ease of implementation, stability and
Flexibility.
Project description
Design: 40 linear feet of movable wall panels with integrated perpendicular hardware and angle connectors.
• 8panels -4'w x 9'h
• 4panels -2'w x 9'h
Specific details of construction:
Panels will be constructed with 4' x 8' prefabricated hollow core material (13/8" thick), surfaced with 1/4" MDF on
both sides. 1/4" MDF facing will be replaceable; all surfaces paintable.
Finished panels: 17/8" thick and 4'w x 9'h
Each panel will be edged with 1/8" thick x 1 7/8" aluminum to protect the corners on the bottom and sides of each
panel. Dual -sided, center hole magnets will be recessed into edge construction to ensure alignment and stability.
Magnets are 1" in diameter by 1/2" thick and configured so that each wall will have a consistent positive and
negative attraction. Positive and negative sides will be marked at the top of each panel. Two leveling feet will be
included per panel. Panel connectors will be secured by interlocking aluminum sliding channels. Channels will be
secured by a threaded bolt connection that can be hand or tool tensioned. Channel connectors will include:
10 - wall "edge" to wall "face" brackets
• 6 - 90 degree edge connectors
• 6-135 degree edge connectors
