Subject: Fee Estimate for Construction Observation
and Materials Testing Services
Registry Park
Fort Collins, Colorado
Proposal No. FC-11-0152
At your request, CTLIThompson, Inc. is pleased to provide this fee estimate for Construction
Observation and Materials Testing services for the Registry Park project located in Fort Collins,
Colorado. We reviewed the plans prepared by Interwest Consulting Group, Alter Lingle Massey
Architects, P.C., and Weeks and Associates dated February 4, 2011 and the Geotechnical
Investigation prepared by CTL Thompson, Inc., project no. FC04930-125, dated June 29, 2009 in
preparation of our proposal.
We anticipate that the city will use our estimate for the basis of establishing a budget for the project
and to issue a purchase order for our services. Our estimated scope of services and associated
fees were prepared according to the terms and conditions of our professional services agreement
with the City of Fort Collins and are presented below.
Earthwork: Compaction testing will be required for overlot grading, utility trench backfill, wall backfill,
grade beam backfill, flatwork subgrade, sidewalk subgrade, slab subgrade, and playground
subgrade. We estimate a total of 80 site visits will be necessary for this project.

Drilled Caisson Observation: Full-time drilled caisson observations will be required for the shelter
and restroom structures. We will observe the depth drilled, bedrock penetration, and reinforcing
steel placement in the piers. Our observations will include one concrete test per day - additional
concrete tests for the caissons will be charged at the rates listed in the Concrete Testing section.
We estimate a total of 7 full -day site visits will be necessary for this project.
Engineering Technician 7 days x 8 hrs/day x $57/hr $3,192.00
Subtotal: $3,192.00
Concrete Testing: Concrete testing will be required for the walls, steps, flatwork, sidewalk, grade
beams, slabs, and playground subgrade. We estimate 40 concrete tests consisting of 4 cylinders
each will be necessary.
Concrete Cylinders 40 tests x $166/test $6,640.00
Subtotal: $6,640.00
Asphalt Testing: Compaction testing may be required during asphalt patching at the street cuts. We
estimate 3 site visits and 3 samples will be necessary.

Masonry Special Inspection: Masonry inspection and sampling will be necessary for the restroom
walls. The specifications call for a minimum of one set of hollow prisms prior to construction and
one set of five grouted prisms during construction. In addition, the specifications call for one set of
mortar cubes to be made each day that mortar is placed and one set of grout cores to be made
each day that the contractor is grouting. We estimate a total of 15 site visits will be necessary to
observe masonry construction and reinforcement, so a total of 15 sets of mortar cubes and grout
cores would also be necessary.
