RE: RFP 7159: Playground Surfacing Construction Services
On behalf of Tatonka Playgrounds and Surface America, I am pleased to submit our bid for playground
surfacing; construction services.
ABOUT OUR CORPORATE TEAM
Surface America is the national industry leader in recreational surfacing, and poured in place is their
signature product. Since 1993, Surface America has provided more than 20 million square feet of poured
in place. Over that period, they have perfected their system to include only the finest materials and
installers.
Surface America's poured in place is superior to others' poured in place because Surface America uses
the most material in the top or wear layer (more "stuff' means a longer useful life). Specifically, Surface
America uses more binder — the glue that holds everything together. This proven recipe carries an
industry -leading 5-year warranty backed by a financially -stable, AAA -credit rated company. All this
ensures a sound return on the customer's investment.
In addition to poured in place, Surface America offers two types of rubber tile in a variety of colors and
thicknesses (pigmented SBR the and UltraTile). They also offer synthetic turf, with or without infill.
Surface America systems are IPEMA-certified to comply with current standards regarding impact
attenuation and accessibility. This is an important national accreditation in establishing a proper standard
of care for public playground purchasers.
Surface America products are available locally in Colorado through a local distributor and installer,
Tatonka Playgrounds. With 8 years and 2 million square feet of installation experience - including
hundredsof thousands of square feet of custom graphics installations - Tatonka is a full service, poured in
place specialist. Tatonka can provide project management service through every stage of your poured in
place project: preparation, installation, and warranty service.
While Tatonka primarily provides high -end Surface America products (poured in place, rubber tile and
synthetic turf), we can also provide loose -fill surfacing solutions such as engineered wood fiber and
rubber mulch (with appropriate testing), even pea gravel and sand. Tell us your budget and goals, and we
will provide a surfacing solution.
Tatonka is factory -certified, insured, and bondable. Our crew leaders are NPSI-certified and ADA
trained. Tatonka also belongs to the leading playground contractors' trade organization, the NPCAI.
Educated consumers recognize that Tatonka is the preferred choice for poured in place in Colorado. No

Since we act as supplier and installer, we offer competitive direct pricing without middle salesman mark
ups. We typically work with unit pricing, but no two projects are the same. Our poured in place normally
ranges between $8-$15/sf. Several factors determine where in the range a specific project falls: square
footage, fall height, color, binder and graphics. For repairs under 50 sf, a minimum day rate for materials
and labor would typically be $500.
DESIGN SERVICES
Because we are a provider and installer, our focus is project implementation rather than design. Neither
Tatonka nor Surface America has CAD or other specific design software. We can, however, extract most
relevant project information from detailed scaled drawings.
Design services are usually provided by landscape architects or manufacturer reps with errors and
omissions insurance. These tiers add cost. If design services are required as part of this bid, we can
either: (1) work direct with your resident landscape architects and park planners, or (2) outsource this
portion of the work.
SUBMITTALS
Submittals are available upon request or during interview. These may include catalogs, color kit, product
specifications, subbase preparation, IPEMA test reports, maintenance guidelines, warranty, NPSI
certificates, and certified installer certificate.
Additional information is easily accessible on the web at www.surfaceamerica.com and
www.tatonkaplaygrounds.com.
ADDENDUM
We acknowledge receipt of Addendum No. 1.
Thank you for considering our proposal. We welcome the opportunity to become your sole source
surfacing provider.
Sincerely,
James T. Ritzel
