Pipes, fittings, and specialties. 2. Fire -protection valves. 3. Fire -department connections. 4. Sprinklers. 5. Alarm devices. 6. Manual control stations. 7. Control panels. 8. Pressure gages. B. Related Sections: 1. Division 13 Section "Fire -Suppression Standpipes" for standpipe piping. 1.03 DEFINITIONS A. High -Pressure Sprinkler Piping: Wet -pipe sprinkler system piping designed to operate at working pressure higher than standard 175 psig, but not higher than 250 prig. B. Standard -Pressure Sprinkler Piping: Wet -pipe sprinkler system piping designed to operate at working pressure of 175 psig maximum. 1.04 SYSTEM DESCRIPTIONS A. Wet -Pipe Sprinkler System: Automatic sprinklers are attached to piping containing water and that is connected to water supply through alarm valve. Water discharges immediately from sprinklers when they are opened. Sprinklers open when heat melts fusible link or destroys frangible device. Hose connections are included if indicated. B. Deluge Sprinkler System: Open sprinklers are attached to piping connected to water supply through deluge valve. Fire -detection system, in same area as sprinklers, opens valve. Water flows into piping system and discharges from attached sprinklers when valve opens. 1.05 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS A. Automatic sprinkler system design, engineering, and installation shall comply with NFPA 13- 2007 and other applicable codes and standards as required by the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ). B. Contractor is responsible for reviewing all plans and specifications for this project and for coordinating work with GC and other trades. C. All materials and devices used on this project shall be UL listed and/or FM approved for use in automatic sprinkler systems. D. New sprinkler heads shall match 'existing building sprinkler head manufacturer and models wherever possible. E. New sprinkler piping shall match existing piping type and connections. 13930 - 1 Lincoln Center Additions Et Renovation - 0936 F. All sprinkler piping penetrations of fire rated assemblies shall be seated with an approved material equal to the fire rating of the assembly. G. All automatic sprinkler piping installed under this contract shall be hydrostatically tested in accordance with NFPA 13-2007, other applicable NFPA standards, and local codes. H. Center sprinklers in ceiling tiles where possible. Coordinate with architect where this becomes infeasible. I. Refer to division 9 specifications for painting requirements. J. Provide access panels for valve and device assemblies, as required. K. Provide and install zone control assemblies as required for new addition areas. Provide with: shutoff valve with tamper switch, flow switch, pressure gauge, and drain and test valve connection assembly. L. Relocate fire department connection to the plumbing chase in toilet 136 in the addition south of the main stage, approximate location shown on drawing C3.0. Route piping through building. M. As of the time of issue of these drawings, a flow test was unavailable for this site. Preliminary review of project requirements by front range fire protection, inc. Indicates that existing fire service entry "should" be adequate for the renovation and additions. N. Areas subject to potential freezing shall be provided with dry head sprinklers or other means to assure freeze protection. 0.
