PROJECT
DESCRIPTION
The Mason Corridor is a five mile north -south byway within the city of Fort Collins, Colorado,
which extends from Cherry Street on the north to south of Harmony Road. The corridor is located
along the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway property, a few hundred feet west of College
Avenue (US 287).
The Mason Corridor includes a new bicycle and pedestrian trail as well as a planned Bus Rapid
Transit (BRT) system in a fixed guideway for the majority of the corridor. The BRT service will
operate nearly twice as fast as auto travel along College Avenue, as well as provide high frequency
service every 10 minutes. Stations will incorporate new high -quality amenities that are similar to light
rail; with low floor boarding platforms, sleek new buses, next bus arrival information, and pre -pay
fare machines. The project includes a new South Transit Center and eight stations and eight stops
along the corridor.
The selected artist/team will be awarded a design contract and will be integrated early into the
process to work with the Project Team on the vision for this exciting project. The goal of this
project is to incorporate artistic concepts into the design of the corridor amenities. The Project
Team is looking for an artist who can help create the vision for the project and then design and
perhaps fabricate site -specific art elements that are also functional elements of the transportation
corridor. Some of the functional elements of the corridor include station signage, shelters, benches,
bike racks, railing, wayfinding elements, etc. The money for these art elements will come from the
project budget.
The Mason Corridor is scheduled to open in early 2012.
Safety & Durability - The work is intended to be a permanent addition to the City of Fort Collins.
Design and installation must consider that the work will be situated in a public location and subject
to the elements and potential vandalism.
Site — The project area is located in Fort Collins, Colorado.
