All aluminum is anodized and structurally strong to allow fastening anywhere on the frame, using stainless steel fasteners. The tubes are built to be installed in any direction; horizontal, vertical, manifold up, down, left or right. NGE TU series collectors work extremely well in all climates. Extreme cloud cover, cold, wind, or rain does not affect this system in the same way as more traditional systems. Our ability to capture infrared energy eliminates the low or zero production typical in cloudy weather. NGE evacuated tube collectors capture and deliver heat to you when you need it the most. Each of our collectors use significantly less power due to the low flow requirements of the U-tube design. The collectors utilize pipe runs of small diameter due to these low flow re- quirements. Most NGE domestic hot water systems use 3/8 inch copper line sets. Our collectors do not need to be disassembled for installa- tion. The 116 series can be assembled and commissioned by a single installer, cutting labor costs. In the rare instance a tube does become damaged, replacement is a snap, completed in a few minutes at minimal cost by one installer. Fluid in the system can be changed out when necessary. Tradespeople who are familiar with closed loop pressurized systems will not need major retraining. NGE tubes have been designed to interface up with stan- dard size tanks available on the market. Sizing is easy with our "per tube" hot water charts. Because these collec- tors are so much more efficient and can do more with less light, they can be much smaller. When utilizing the Zilla'rl Racking and Mounting system, the NGE TU series are low profile, elegant and efficient solar thermal systems that will function for decades. • Will receive consistent amount of sun year-round • Low flow rate = smaller pipes and pumps • No mechanical parts to wear out • Designed to integrate with Zille Rac NGE-216-Tu, Superior Technology NGE evacuated tube collectors are superior to all other "evacuated tube" collectors for several aesthetic and technological reasons. Our tubes have no mechanical components to wear out. Heat transfer fluid (water or a glycol/water mix) simply circulates through the collector. There are no snap discs, and no copper to copper friction heat transfer connections that lose memory and thus efficiency over time. The three coat absorber process, design of the u-tube collector, and conduction within the internal heat trans- fer system allows energy to be collected from any angle. There is no need to turn the tube to maximize heat collection. Our collectors, depending upon the mounting method, can have the same angle of incidence throughout the day or season. Our tubes collect energy all day. Typically our collectors are working from t hour after sunrise to hour before sunset. Not all collector days are the same. It is important to note that the current and outdated testing methods do not do our collectors justice. For our tubes, there does not need to be a full sun hour or a "90 degree angle of incidence" These collectors make maximum use of the sun of sun all day. Low slope roofs - no problem, steep pitches- no problem, flat roofs - no prob- lem, wall mounts - no problem. in fact, our collectors are the most aesthetically pleasing and easily installed evacuated tube collectors on the market. The absorber surface is 360 degrees, allowing our collectors to capture energy from all angles. They can even capture energy from the backside. Another key element to our unique design is that the majority of energy trans- fer of energy to the heat transfer fluid occurs within the vacuum itself. Other de- signs do this same process outside of the vacuum, resulting in increased heat loss. NGE evacuated tube collectors are simply superior in real world applications Evacuated Tube Diagram SELECTIVE LAYER CAPTURES SOLAR RAYS ALUMINUM LINER TRANSFERS HEAT TRAPS Tubes vs. Flat Plate r i' so_ -,-so* 90' OO COPPER LAYER ABSORBS AND TRANSFERS HEAT LAYER OUTERGLASSTUBE COPPER U-TUBE DESIGN PROTECTS AND CIRCULATES FLUID INSULATES UNIT VACUUM SEAL INSULATES AGAINST HEAT/ COLD THROUGH COLLECTOR ALLOWING UNIT TO WORK IN COLD/WINDY WEATHER. Collins Rooftop Array: The collectors will be mounted using galvanized steel and aluminum racking components. A ballasted system is planned that will require no roof penetrations for attaching collectors or racking. Kreutzman Construction will utilize the existing rock ballast to ballast the collector arrays. A weight of rock equivalent to the weight of all collectors and racking will be removed so that no net weight is added to the roof. Kreutzman Construction will not be responsible for moving the existing piece of rooftop equipment if needed. Kreutzman will coordinate installation activities with Independent Roofing of Commerce City to ensure all roof warranties are held intact. Kreutzman Construction will utilize a crane to lift materials on to the roof. This will be coordinated with the City of Fort Collins. Solar Piping: The 96 NGE-216 collectors will be plumbed with 6 collectors in series. The entire array will be plumbed using a reverse flow return configuration. Kreutzman Construction will use type L copper and/or corrugated stainless steel tubing for piping on the project. There will likely be a combination of both used to maximize installation efficiency and quality. Piping will be sized to maximize the performance of the 96 collector system. Any future expansion will require additional piping. Exterior piping will be insulated with aluminum jacketed fiberglass insulation. Exterior piping will be supported with rubber blocks or wall mounted as appropriate. Interior piping will be insulated with fiberglass insulation. Independent Roofing will seal pipe and conduit penetrations. System Functionality: The thermal system will be plumbed so as to provide pre- heated domestic hot water or to heat the main swimming pool. The controller priority will be to heat the two 105 gallon solar storage tanks. The hot water outlets of the 105 gallon tanks will serve as the domestic water supply to the existing storage tank. Once the tanks are heated the system will heat the swimming pool until there is a demand for more domestic hot water or the pool set point is met. The Longmont Recreational Center located in Longmont, CO, has recently implemented a solar thermal system with the goal of off -setting large utility bills. Recent legislation and available federal funding prompted the City of Longmont to jump on the opportunity, and with the advances in technology from Next Generation Energy®, the rec center was able to recieve more system for their money. With 120 NGE-216 evacuated tube collectors ballasted on the roof, Longmont Rec Center is off -setting a minumum of 1,493,116,235 BTU's annually - translating to $12,691.49 saved in the first year. The fixed energy rate provided by the solar sys- tem will continue to save substantial amounts of money and energy for the life of the system. New designs and advances in installation equipment have allowed places such as the Longmont Rec Center to take advantage of the opportunities out there for renewable energy. Next Generation Energy® has recently released its ZillaT"" line of racking and mounting products that alone cut the cost of installation and labor in half. With large projects such as these, cost factors such as materials, time and labor can make or break a deal. The Longmont system utilized exclusively ZillaTm racking and mounting com- ponents, as wells as the top rated NGE-216 evacuated tube collectors (most efficient in the world). Installation of all 120 collec- tors, racking and mounting took just 6 days. The Longmont Recreational Center is now one of the largest evacuated tube collector systems in the Rocky Mountain region. Ballasted roof mount system at Longmont Recreation Center. 120 evacuated tube collectors saving thousands of dollars in their first year of operation. Centennial Pool in Longmont, CO, has installed a large solar thermal system to heat pool water at their aquatic fa- cility. Due to location, the system at Centennial Pool required a large ground mounted array with a custom racking design. Next Generation Energy®'s superior evacuated tube collectors and ZillaTm racking and mounting options were implemented to create the most energy and cost efficient solution. ' Utilizing NGE's newest ZillaTM product, the Helical, a new solar industry concept along with the rest of the complete ZillaTM line, the installers were able to save 80% on the cost of labor and materials (30% materials, 50% on labor). With the Helical, no augering or cement was required, simply a bobcat and a guide: 72 Helicals placed in half a day compared to 72 augered and cemented holes in more than double the time. 98 NGE-216 evacuated tube collectors, racking, and ground mount were com- pleted in just 5 days. 1 11 The Centennial Pool solar thermal system will off -set at least 1,194,492,988 BTU's annually and save a minimum of $10,153.19 in its first year of operation. In conjunction with both federal and state incentives, the city of Golden decided to jump on the opportunity to provide free energy to the Golden Recreation Center, a facility designed with solar in mind and in need of reprieve from large utility bills. "This building was originally designed for solar, with open, south facing roof tops and correct orientation, but there just I wasn't enough money in the budget for the installation and system costs at the time. We believe this project will have an extremely positive impact on this area as the community at large is very supportive and down to business when it comes to making positive changes." - Keith Isenberger, Facility Maintenance Dept. To get the process rolling the city of Golden's internal sustainability council brought in McKinstry, a design build contractor, specializing in energy services and performance contracting. McKinstry has a dedicated energy services team comprised of energy engineers, energy auditors, program managers and account managers, committed to ensuring the successful devel- opment and installation of all projects. For this specific solar hot water project, McKinstry found it necessary to involve Next Generation Energy® for their expertise in quality system design and superior products. Together, McKinstry and NGE were able to oversee and complete Golden Recreation Center's 96 evacuated tube system, providing enough heat for approximately 460,000 gallons of pool water daily. Golden's solar project consists of a complete turnkey system; 96 panel (NGE216-TU tubes) pressurized glycol system flush mounted on the roof, solar storage tank with a heat exchanger, pump station, and all miscellaneous parts. UL 75 Waneka Parkway I Lafayette, CO 80026 1 720.880.6800 1 303.664.1268 ' ( Proposal / Contract Site Requirements: ' Customer is responsible for ensuring that all underground utilities and systems have been clearly marked by a professional locating company prior to KCI starting work at the site. It is the customer's (and subsequent property owners') responsibility to maintain documentation locating any underground ' lines installed by KCI. KCI is not responsible for repair to any underground lines damaged due to failure to properly mark these lines prior to work being performed by KCI or others. KCI is not responsible for repair to any underground lines due to damage from tree roots, ground water, animals or other causes. The prices in the Proposal assume the dead loads of the system equipment will not exceed the weight - bearing capacity of the structure. Neither KCI nor Next Generation Energy is responsible for verifying the structural integrity of the site or of the building in which the system is to be installed, or for verifying that the building meets engineered design loads. The prices in the Proposal assume that all collectors will fit on the roof and that all storage tanks, pump stations, etc. will fit in mechanical room and all ' required building systems can interface with the solar system proposed. Customer is solely responsible for maintaining a safe working environment for KCI personnel at the ' site. Customer will obtain general liability insurance covering the site and KCI's personnel while they are working at the site. Site Access: The Proposal assumes that KCI will have continuous access to the property on which the system is to be installed Monday to Friday, 8am — 5pm beginning on _, 2009. Any limits on KCI's access may result in additional fees, which will be based on any access limitations. System ' commissioning may require limited access outside those normal times, to be outlined as per system design and implementation. I System Requirements: Mechanical rooms must be equipped with floor drains. Metallic drain pipes or non-existent floor drains will result in additional fees for KCI to comply with building codes. ' The system will require a dedicated electrical circuit and outlets to the system control/mechanical room, which customer must obtain from others. Circuit(s) specifications and outlet(s) locations and quantities will be determined by the system design. KCI will provide those specifications, locations and quantities ' to customer. Unless otherwise specified in the Proposal, the domestic water systems at the site must be operational ' prior to system installation and/or commissioning. Next Generation Energy® has recently released its ZillaTM line of racking and mounting products that alone cut the cost of installation and labor in half. Utilizing NGE's newest ZillaTM product, the Helical, a new solar industry concept along with the rest of the complete ZillaTI, line, the installers were able to save 80% on the cost of labor and materials (30% materials, 50% on labor). The Centennial Pool solar thermal system will off -set at least 1,194,492,988 BTU's annually and save a minimum of $10,153.19 in its first year of operation. In conjunction with both federal and state incentives, the city of Golden decided to jump on the opportunity to provide free energy to the Golden Recreation Center, a facility designed with solar in mind and in need of reprieve from large utility bills. "This building was originally designed for solar, with open, south facing roof tops and correct orientation, but there just wasn't enough money in the budget for the installation and system costs at the time.
