Hoelscher Special Projects Manager Subject: Fee Estimate for Geotechnical Investigation Environmental Learning Center Flow Restoration Project Fort Collins, Colorado Proposal No. FC-08-0513 CTLIThompson, Inc. is pleased to: provide. this fee estimate for a. geotechnical investigation for the Environmental Learning Center (ELC,) Flow .Restoration Porject., We understand the project will include design and construction of a diversion structure in the Cache la Pouder River and a pedestrian bridge over the river. Based on conversations with Mr. Christopher Pletcher, PE of Ayres Associates and the design team, we propose to conduct a -total of six: borings at the site. Four of the borings will be conducted along the alignment of the proposed structure and two of the borings will be conducted at the Proposed abutment locations for the pedestrian bridge. The borings will be extended to a depth of 30 feet or practical auger refusal. The attached figure presents our proposed boring locations. In preparation of this proposal; we evaluated options for gaining access to the site to conduct the subsurface investigation, including constructing temporary access to the site from the west or north with excavation equipment. In order to keep site disturbance. to 'a minimum, we propose to drill the four borings south and west of the river using a relatively small track mounted drill rig. Using this rig will eliminate the need to construct temporary access to portions of the. site and significantly reduce impact to the site during our investigation. Because the. track rig is smaller than a conventional truck mounted rig, the time required to drill the. borings is increased by a total of about one half day, increasing the fee by .about $1,000. However, using a track mounted rig should be less costly than constructing access to the site with earth moving equipment and using a truck, mounted rig. The two borings north of the. river will be .drilled with a conventional truck mounted drill rig. After completing our subsurface investigation, we will present our boring logs and results 'of our laboratory testing from, the investigation described above to the design team. As we understand it, the design team will use this information to evaluate alternatives for the diversion structure. After an alternative has been selected, we will provide a final Geologic and Geotechnical Investigation Report that presents design and construction criteria for the diversion structure and pedestrian bridge. We estimate our fee for scope of work described above will not exceed $11,900. Our fee estimate is based on our unit rates from our existing contract with the City of 351 Linden Street I Suite.140 1 Fort Collins, Colorado 80524 Telephone970-206-9455 Fax:970-206-9441 Fort Collins (No. P1107, 2009). We understand the fee estimate we are providing will be used for budgetary purposes and to issue a work order. Due to the limited availability of the track mounted drill rig, we have tentatively scheduled our subsurface investigation for January 25, 26, and 27, 2009. We anticipate providing the boring logs and results of our laboratory testing to the design team within a week of completing our investigation. If you have any questions or would like us to modify the above scope, please contact the undersigned. Sincerely, CTL I THOMPSON, INC.
