The central steel element turns in the wind. 2 Vinifera aluminum / Art in Transit 65"x66"x42" polycarbonate Englewood Pkwy 2006 Englewood, CO Created for a sculpture garden and inspired by summer growth outside the artist's window, the work reacts to the changing dappled light with an interplay of shape and color. 3 Roof Garden aluminum Poudre Valley Hospital 5 screens, (detail) 2003 Ft. Collins, CO each 9'x9'x5' Designed to relieve the bleak view of a hospital rooftop, the sculptural screens depict an imagined garden. Perforated and curved surfaces create light effects that change with the time of day. The panels are positioned in the lie of vision from each patient's bed. 4 Sky Song acrylic BellSouth Headquarters 13'x22'xl6' 2000 Birmingham, AL The artwork is suspended in an employee commons area, overlooking the wooded corporate campus. Images of water, fallen leaves, and a bird in flight curve across the surface. 5 Natural World aluminum / acrylic 1999 Broadway (detail) 2007 Denver, CO 8'x38'xl7' The client wanted a new identity for updating a landmark on the Denver skyline. The shapes were to be "of nature" without depicting specific natural subjects. Patterned acrylic panels bounce light across the atrium and cast moving shadows on the floor. Reacting to ambient air currents, 3 of the 5 elements turn slowly in space. 6 Knowledge Shared steel / acrylic Council Tree Library 10'x33'xl8' (detail) 2009 Ft. Collins, CO This library installation incorporates symbols from mathematics, music, and Roman numerals, as well as alphabets from Mandarin, Hebrew, Greek, Arabic and Cyrillic. The central elements are ribbons of rolled steel formed into a double logarithmic spiral and suspended overhead. Symbols extend from walls, ceiling tiles and stair stringers, and in the form of seating and bike racks. Collaboration with community members, architects, engineers and managers leads to design solutions not of an existing imagination but of a newly created one. Program development with its issues of audience, thematic focus, siting, durability, safety, scheduling, and budget makes an interesting gumbo of needs and wants. The process underscores the significance of art to the quality of life. The goal is meaningful, inspiring public art. have worked in public art for twenty-five years, designing projects for offices, libraries, schools, medical centers, museums, pedestrian plazas, parks and festivals. In Vail I worked with a design team on a new transportation corridor to link the central village with Lionshead. The pedestrian and vehicle route addressed the concerns of many stakeholders: homeowners, hotels, a firehouse, and a hospital. In Ft. Collins I collaborated with a design team to define and develop public art for a library sited within a retail complex. In Avon, our design team planned the town's first real main street, where integrated public art will help create a new civic identity. I am also well experienced with the art selection process, both as an art committee member and as a presenting artist. The diversity of projects has ranged from a city hall to a courthouse, from a human services center to a hospital rooftop, from a roundabout to a portable maze. Public art benefits me every day as an artist and as a community member. Work as a design consultant would be a very welcome opportunity to assist a widening circle of public art inspiration and delight.
