Elizabeth Lundberg Morisette Letter of Intent/ Art in Action 1900 Sheely Drive Fort Collins, CO 80526 elmorisette.blogspot.com The Art in Action project is a great idea and a very exciting opportunity.. For over ten years, my personal education and professional experience have been focused on Community Arts. Throughout my carrer, I have worked with community members to create various projects with a number of mediums. My goal is always to determine what the community wants to communicate and help them say it through their art. The most satsfying part of every community art project I do is the ability to help community members realize that they are Artists and that their art is important. The finished project will be a lasting reminder of how the community came together to create something both meaningful and beautiful. I am excited to work on the Art in Action project in particular because of its experiential qualtity. I envision a project in which visitors to Old Town will have the opportunity to participate in the production of a work of Public Art. This project, called "Art -I -Fact" will expand each day according to the participation of visitors, based on the items they donate to the project.as well as their own placement of the objects within the mosaic. This participation will result in a visual time capsule of Old Town Fort Collins during the Summer of 2009. There are several objectives I intend to use as I approach this project: First; I would compose a press release asking the Community of Fort Collins to donate items for a visual time capsule. Weatherproof objects such as keys, horseshoes, bottlecaps, etc would be collected at various locations throughout the city like City Hall, Libraries, and community centers Second; I would facilitate a project that is community led. This will be done by having many sessions in which I set up a table in Old Town square and encourage participants to create their own tile using either their own donations or items collected through the drop-off described in the 1 ' objective. Third; Once the tiles are completed, we will use them to create a mosaic mural of items. Participants can come by the artwork in Old Town and find their own creation and/or item and have a sense of ownership of, and contribution to the artwork. I would also have an opening reception once the piece is completed. I hope you will give my proposal sincere consideration. No doubt, I would truly benefit by engaging with The City of Fort Collins on this project. I would dedicate my attention to ensure the project is aestheticly beautiful as well a cohesive project for all who participate. I am submitting an application for the 7031 Art in Action Project. Enclosed you will find a CD images of my work along with an image list, teaching resume, arts resume, letter of intent, and image list. I have been doing Community Arts workshops for many years throughout the country. Two professional references that can speak of this work are: Valerie Watson- (301) 341-9749. Ms. Watson was the head of the Arts Programming for the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission in the Metro Washington Area. Over the course of ten years, I worked with her on several art shows and projects. Cynthia Connolly- (703) 228 1834. Ms. Connolly is the Director of the Ellipse Art Center in Arlington, Virginia. I created a public Art Installation in the gallery during the "From the Junkyard to the Front yard" exhibition. The installation was created so participants could weave recycled material into a large loom. Let me know if I can provide you any more information. Thank You! p Elizabeth Morisette
