Each individual form is kinetic, and rocks and turns through air movement in nature. Human elbows were cast in plaster, transferred to wax, and then cast in aluminum through the lost wax process. Artist Name: Cheryl Rogers — 2 Title: untitled Medium: cast aluminum, stainless steel, marble Dimensions: 74"hx24"wx24"d Date: 2008 Description: In this piece I am combining organic forms with kineticism, again focusing on man's relationship with the natural world. The aluminum and marble section pivots on an axis and sways in the wind. Human hands and elbows were cast in plaster and transferred to wax. These wax pieces were then incorporated into a final form that was cast into aluminum through the lost wax process. We believe that our proposal meets the Art in Action criteria for a community learning experience in the process of bronze casting that lets viewers become an actual part of the finished piece. Together, Kim Ferrer, Cheryl Rogers and Christine Martell have a significant number of years experience in the art of lost wax bronze casting and would be honored to be chosen for this piece. Thank you, UW3;r- Christin Marte [ Ki errer Cheryl Rogers Art in Action Project (7031) Letter of Intent Ferrer, Martell & Rogers THE IMPORTANCE OF PUBLIC ART IN THE COMMUNITY IS PRESENTING A SYMBOLIC IMAGE THAT EMBODIES THE VALUES OF THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE THERE. The people of Fort Collins know the significance of community and the shared responsibility it has to support and nourish its youth. "It takes a village to raise a child" is a simple phrase that embodies the universal message reminding us of our interconnectedness and interdependence on each other in order to create the best community possible. This piece is a tribute to the exceptional support the Fort Collins Community has for its youth. What makes this piece unique is the fact that it is interactive and requires the community to participate in its making, while giving them an opportunity to learn about the lost wax bronze casting process. Children's hands with palms face up create the center of a mandala shaped form, surrounded by an outer circle of adult hands with palms face down. The making of the hand imprints in plaster molds is the first step of inviting the community to take part. From there, participants will witness the pouring of wax into these molds, the refinement of the waxes, the creation of the investment mold, a small on -site bronze pour (made possible with a portable mini bronze pour set-up) and the final de -investment, bronze finishing and patina process. What better way to embody the message of the piece than to bring the community together in an interactive way to share in the process of creating art while they are also becoming the art? By incorporating community members of all ages and walks of life this artwork will be an authentic and unique visual representation of the children and the village that supports them. CHRISTINE A.
