Chris Bates artist@nughtyfineart. org Art in Action Project 7031 Dear Selection Committee, Thank you for all of the great opportunities that you are providing this year for Colorado Artists. Out of all of the jobs that have been posted I feel that this one suits me best. There are multiple avenues that I have pursued in my past that have led me to being a great candidate for this job. I have worked as a live artist multiple times during the past 6 years. I have painted live with bands including John Magnee (Subdudes), Listen, Sweet Nectar and many Jazz Quartets. The venues that I have painted at include Misawaka, Hodi's Half Note, Aggie Theatre, Gothic Theatre, Avo's and the Old Town Band Shell. These experiences have made me very comfortable creating art in front of people. It is fun and exciting to interact with people and involve them in the creative process. Aside from my performance art creations, I have also done multiple pieces of public art. What i feel makes my public art special is my ability to create art with a well-rounded approach. With each piece I take into consideration the location in which it is placed, the people that will be using the area, the needs or interests of the philanthropist and how the art will fit into the greater environment. The way that I approach creating art in the public realm allows me to make meaningful creations that can be appreciated on many levels. Another aspect of my past that makes me a great fit for this project is my nature as and educator. I have been a guest speaker at numerous schools in Fort Collins and Loveland. These classes have made me a clear communicator and a more confident public speaker. This has also refined my ability to get others excited and involved in what I am doing. Being a local artist that has grown up in Fort Collins I possess a love for and knowledge of this community. For a piece of art, that will be both high profile and represent our city, to be a success it needs to come from the community. I have a strong sense of what Fort Collins is all about and feel stronger about sharing that vision to our community and its visitors. Growing up here has granted me many resources to draw from that will aide my success given the opportunity to create such an important piece of art for Fort Collins. Being a local artist that is a comfortable working in front of people, who is a natural educator and is not afraid to think large and collaborate with others makes me an excellent candidate for this job. Combining my knowledge and experiences with my love for this city will assure that the art I will create will be deserving of and important to Fort Collins. Thank you for taking the time to consider me for a great project such as this one. I have no doubt that given the chance I will make Fort Collins proud.
