"Peace" Bronze Monumental 12.8' x 42" x 42" 2008. $50;000 Commissioned by Art for the Mountain Community in Evergreen, Colorado. This 12' tall piece will be placed at hospice. On top to the raised hands are bronze origami folded cranes representing peace and hope. 2."Seeking a New Vision" raku maquette for larger piece 26" x 12" x 8" 2009 $1,200 This sculpture was only created in the last month and is not currently placed. It was created as a maquette with which to submit to public art projects. "Conversation with Myself' Bronze 32" x 24" x 14" 2008 $9000 Installed June 2008 in Evergreen Colorado and Park Meadows Mall in Lonetree Colorado. Purchased and installed in Littlerock, AK and to be installed in Longmont, CO and Roseville, CA this summer. This sculpture was also featured in Southwest Art Magazine March 2009. 4. "Arc of Peace" Bronze 56" x 36" x 18" 2008 $20,000 Rich in symbolism, this sculpture uses the folded origami cranes to speak of peace. The outstretched hands with the cranes arcing between them illustrate the idea that the creation of peace is up to each of us, and in our daily interactions is up to us to send that peace out into the world. This piece to be installed in Lake Oswego, Oregon, in July 2009 5 "Caring Enough to Look" Bronze 18" x 10 x 4", 2007 $2,900 The idea about caring enough about people to actually look at who they are instead of making assumptions about them is a powerful concept. A small sculpture, it is a favorite of my collectors, but it not place publicly. 6" Bright Future" Green Sculpture Technique 29"x 8" x 8" 2009 $1,500 This piece was inspired by the song "The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades" and the idea that we do have a bright future ahead of us and we need to look toward it. Intended to be placed in homes, it is not installed in public. However; I believe it would be ideal for a community wanting to focus on their own bright future that lies ahead. 7. `'Who Rescued Who?" raku maquette for larger piece 22" x 10" x 7" 2009 $900 This sculpture was only created in the last month and is not currently placed. It was created as a maquette with which to submit to public art project, particularly those calls for animal shelters. 8."The Journey Series" raku maquettes for larger pieces 25"-30" tall 2009 $375-$450 These sculptures were only created in the last month and are not currently placed publicly. Although they were created as a maquettes with which to submit to public art projects, they are selling rapidly as tabletop sculptures. To the Selection Committee: I love Fort Collins. My father was born here and I have spent much of my life here. I am deeply embedded in this community as an artist, as a teacher, as a parent, and as a citizen. Two years ago I created the "Women with Wings" project and worked with over four hundred women in this community. We heard and documented each of their stories in audio, text, some in video, and on the finished towers that we created though the duration of the project. This massive undertaking was a labor of love-, a grassroots effort that gathered support as we went, and even still I get requests from community members to do it all over again. In the past year my sculpture career has really taken off. A monumental sculpture commission for "Art for the Mountain Communities" in Evergreen; a four page article about me in the March edition of Southwest Art Magazine, more of my work being prominently placed on network television shows and in sculpture walks around the country are just a few of the highlights. I have been told by many community members that I should have work in downtown Fort Collins. I have explained that the opportunities for publicly placed sculptures are rare, but when one comes up, I will go for it. Well, here I am, going for it! I would love to do this project. I love people, I am an excellent teacher who would relish the opportunity to share what I do with the city of Fort Collins. With whatever guidelines that you lay out, I would find ways to include the community in the work that I am doing. This would create an emotional investment in the project and memories that would continue to bring them back into the downtown areas, not only while I am working, but long after the project is finished and installed. My work, inclusive in its rendering and in its subject matter, encourages the viewer to bring his or her own life experiences to it. It speaks to people, lifts them, encourages thought, and brings people together. This encourages the deep connection with the work that people express to me over and over again. Each person somehow feels that it is telling his or her story. Throughout the process of selecting an artist for this project, you will undoubtedly encounter a large number of very talented artists. I cannot imagine, however, another- artist that is better suited than I am for this project. The quality of my art and experience that I have in creating large sculpture, coupled with my love of people, connections in this community, and ability to bring people together and make them feel not only valued, but a part of sornething greater than themselves is exactly what we need in Fort Collins right now. And it is exactly what I hope to have the opportunity to do.
