Dear Fort Collins Parks and Recreation
Thank you for the opportunity to apply for another five years of directing the
tennis program for the City of Fort Collins As I have expressed in the past I appreciate
your support and encouragement over the past five years
The past five years have seen numerous milestones as we have moved ahead it
developing what I believe to be the largest, the most vaned and the most successful
public (and possibly private) tennis program in the state and region Our efforts were
recognized by the United States Professional Tennis Association with the presentation
of the 2007 Facility Manager of the Year for the five state Intermountain Region
It has been exciting to direct a program with the following highlights
• 42 Colorado ranked players in 2007 participated in our programs
• Many of our junior players contributed to our cdy's fine high school teams that
have finished as high as #2 in the state
• Each year holding 19 USTA junior tournaments with participants numbering
close to 2 000
• Development of a Life Skills program that is presented to all of our students
in our beginning through future star lessons
• Inaugural Fort Collins City Championships for adults to be held during
September, 2008
• PIT (Pro in Training) program for aspiring high school players to learn the ins
and outs of the tennis business
• Development of a vibrant year round program (weather permitting)
• Online program registration and ability for players to view court reservations
• Full service pro shop including stringing
Tennis continues to grow in Fort Collins and I am grateful to be part of
that growth We continue to provide a healthy, welcome environment for both
junior and adult citizens of Fort Collins We continue to introduce tennis to
hundreds of children and adults and then provide them with programs to help
keep them involved in the game
We view our tennis programs as one of the benefits of living in Fort Collins
Sincerely
Lar

COMPANY PHILOSOPHY
The mission statement and goals for the program that was submitted ten years
ago in the original proposal has not changed We have held true to our mission
statement and have accomplished our goals The mission and goals will be the same
for the next five years with the added focus of increasing the vibrancy of the program
by creating more activity in the off season months, development of regionally and
nationally ranked players and the further development of programs to serve "at risk"
youth and people who are physically and mentally challenged An atmosphere of
friendliness and service will continue to be a priority at the pro shop Whenever there is
dissatisfaction with product or services, an offer of a refund is always made To have
all our customers satisfied is a major goal
Mission Statement "To grow the game of tennis in Fort Collins by making
Rolland Moore Park Tennis the center of tennis act vity in Fort Collins To provide
quality programs at all of Fort Collins City tennis courts "
Making Rolland Moore the center of tennis in Fort Collins means that it would
become the clearinghouse for activities at all the city's tennis courts Instructors would
be trained at Rolland Moore and then sent to the city's satellite courts to teach and run
programs for children and adults Round robins, tournaments, game arrangement,
group and private lessons, camps for children and adults, special events such as
mental and physical condfionhng clinics would all be held at the facility
Junior tennis will be a major part of the operation My philosophy on junior
tennis is that it is important to remember that the most important thing a child can
develop from a tennis lesson or activity has more to do with life skills than it has to do
with tennis skills Life skills such as sportsmanship, concentration, dealing with winning
and losing, goal setting, and discipline These are skills that will be taught right along
with how to hit a topspin forehand The lessons are taught with lots of positive
feedback and encouragement
