The long awaited and much hyped Year 2000 is officially here and I am
pleased to tell you that all critical Express Scripts sy°tems came through in
fine order unaffected by any Y2K technical issues
The arrival of Januaty 1 each year always brings unusually heavy call
volume due to plan design changes for existing clients and inauguration of
services for new clients This year because of Y2K concerns and
premature ordering of prescription refills, the number of calls coming into
our Call Centers has far exceeded that of any previous year As a result
some clients and their members have experienced difficulty reaching us by
phone sometimes receiving a busy signal

I can assure you that any such difficulties are merely the consequence of
unprecedented high call volume This situation is not unique to Express
Scripts in fact the same phenomenon is occurring throughout the PBM
industry creating equal or greater, difficulty
