We are happy to do an economic comparison of energy saving alternatives, and a RTU replacement plan
for the pool area only at the Mulberry Pool. We will compare first costs and energy savings of 1) a
glycol run-around loop with coils in the exhaust duct and a coil in the new RTU, to transfer heat from
the exhaust air to the cold incoming outside air to 2) a heat recovery wheel in the new RTU, also to
transfer heat from the exhaust to the incoming outside air. This second option will require extending
the exhaust duct through the pool area up under the roof to the new RTU, and may require a new
exhaust fan.
Our thought is to size one new rooftop unit with the preferred heat recovery system for winter use, with
the second unit without heat recovery to run in summer in addition to the first unit, for humidity control
and ventilation.
We will run block heat loss and humidity control calculations, simple payback calculations for the heat
recovery options, size all new equipment required, provide a piping schematic (for the glycol loop if that
option is selected) along with pump selection and sizing of piping, etc. We are looking at Engineered
Air rooftop equipment installed on the existing roof curbs. We anticipate two sheets of plans, including
specification notes, equipment schedules, roof plan, details, sections, etc. Controls to be compatible
with the City JCI. EMS system.
We will do this work on an hourly basis not to exceed $3900.00 at the following rates (design only)
Principal/P.E.:
$100.00
Professional Engineer (P.E.):
$85.00
Engineer (E.I.T./BS):
$75.00
Engineer I/Designer:
$48.00
Office:
$48.00

Construction phase work will be done hourly as requested by the City, including bid phase coordination,
shop drawing checks, construction coordination and changes, job site observations, etc.
Please call with any questions, and sign and date if the above is satisfactory.

Re: Mulberry Pool Boiler Replacement Study & Design, Job No. P01-08
Ron:
We are happy to do an engineering study to help you make the best economic and maintenance decision
regarding the replacement of the swimming pool boiler at the Mulberry Pool.
We will provide you with a short study report in letter format to include the following
1. Compare first costs and efficiency and energy costs for new high efficiency boilers
compared to standard efficiency boilers, with simple payback.
2. Compare options as above, to replace the (2) existing domestic water heaters. One
option would be a side -arm heater in a conventional boiler. A second option would be to
use a plate -fin heat exchanger, using one of the proposed high efficiency pool boilers as
the heat source.
We will do this study at our standard hourly rates below, not to exceed $2200.00.
Our hourly rates are as follows:
Principal/P.E.:
$100.00
Professional Engineer (P.E.):
$85.00
Engineer (E.I.T./BS):
$75.00
Engineer I/Designer:
$48.00
Office:
$48.00
Upon completion of the study and decision from the City of Ft. Collins regarding the recommended
equipment and options, we will prepare plans for the boiler and domestic water heater replacement. We
will select and schedule the new equipment, show revised piping to connect the new equipment to
existing piping, provide for new flues, combustion air, gas piping, etc. We will also provide a
piping/pumping schematic, and provide specification notes on the plans. We will also provide
specifications for controls compatible with the City EMS system (Johnson Controls Inc.).

Design will be done at our hourly rates above, not to exceed $3600.00, design only. Construction
phase work will be done hourly as requested by the City, including bid phase, shop drawing checks, job
site observations, etc.
Please call with any questions,
Sincerely,
