Revision C Kraig Bader • Paragraph 2.1 — Specified that load rating shall be an ultimate 2/1712005 load rating. Amend load rating from 14,100 pounds -force to 10,000 pounds -force. The reduced load rating is selected as a compromise between strength rating and lid weights that will allow safe operation. SYM C This specification covers large fiberglass utility vaults for sub -surface installation of electric equipment. Vaults purchased under this Specification shall be in accordance with drawing no. 366-103 and the following requirements. 2 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS 2.1 Covers shall support a minimum ultimate load of 10,000 pounds -force when tested with a point load applied to a 12" diameter steel plate placed at the center of the lid. Covers shall be tested with the lids in place on the vault housing. 2.2 Sidewalls shall have a minimum ultimate strength of 3,000 pounds -force when tested with a point load applied to a 10" x 10" plate placed in the middle of the sidewall. 2.3 The structural properties of the vault shall remain stable over a temperature range of -50OF to +200°F 3 CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS 3.1 The vault and cover shall be constructed of fiberglass reinforced polyester (FPR) with a minimum of 30% glass, the balance being isophthalic polyester resin. The resin shall include ultraviolet inhibitors. 3.2 The side panels and half round end sections shall be a minimum of 210 mils thick. Side panels shall be a minimum weight of 36 lbs. each. End panels shall be a minimum weight of 46 lbs. each. 3.3 The cover shall be constructed with reinforcing ribs as shown on drawing 366-103. The top of the cover shall be a minimum of 474 mils thick, shall have a non-skid surface, and shall be impregnated with a queen olive color. 3.3.1 Round covers shall have a minimum weight of 30 pounds. 3.3.2 Oval covers shall have a weight between 60 pounds and 80 pounds. 3.4 Deleted 3.5 Dimensional integrity shall be such that parts can be randomly selected for development of either an oval or round vault. 3.6 All hardware shall be stainless steel. 4 QUALIFICATION TESTING Manufacturers shall be required to provide certified test reports prior to placing an order and on at least one vault and cover from the first production run following any design or process change. Test reports shall verify that the glass content and ultimate strength of the covers and the vault sections manufactured under the manufacturer's process conform to this specification. 366-103
