Products include gyros, hummus sandwiches, bratwursts, and hot dogs. These products are chosen to appeal in some way to a customer who might patronize this cart. A gyro is a pita sandwich made with seasoned lamb, tangy tzatziki sauce, fresh tomatoes, chopped onion, and Aegean feta cheese. This sandwich may be considered the "flagship" of the Tumbleweed product line. Pitas and lamb for the gyro will be purchased from Kronos Gyros, whose slogan is "everyone's favorite brand of gyros". Kronos also refers to a consumer taste test conducted in 1997, in which Kronos gyros were preferred to the McDonald's Quarter Pounder by three out of four consumers surveyed. Hummus sandwiches are offered as a low fat, vegetarian alternative to the gyro. These sandwiches are also served on pita bread, garnished with tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, onions, and feta. The lamb is omitted, and the sandwich is topped by griddle fried hummus. Hummus is made from mashed chickpeas, tahini, and other Mediterranean seasonings. It is low in Fat and high in dietary fiber and protein. Bratwursts and hotdogs fill out the menu. Sausages are a traditional staple of pushcart vending. Tumbleweed's hotdogs and bratwursts are dressed with any or all of the following: Sweet pickle relish, mustard, catsup, chili, sauerkraut, onions, and tomatoes. Bratwursts and hotdogs are priced more affordably compared to gyros and hummus to attract college students on a budget. I will sell all these for a low price to encourage a high volume of customers. Gyros and hummus wraps will be sold for $4, bratwursts for $2.50, and hotdogs for $1.50. These prices reflect the cost with tax that customers will pay. Tumbleweed Super Tasty Treats serves from a food cart made of 14 gauge stainless steel. The cart is built on a steel box frame. All food is cooked on a 25"x 45" griddle top purchased from a used food service equipment supplier. The griddle was described by the seller as having been salvaged from a warship from the second world war at time of purchase, but given it's silvery beauty, I must confess I have my doubts about the validity of this claim. The cart has been approved by the Latimer County department of Health and Environment. Tumbleweed Super Tasty Treats food cart runs on propane, which supplies heat to all the burners used for food preparation as well as the water heater for the hand sink. The sink is supplied from an onboard water supply, and the pump for this sink runs on a small rechargeable battery. The cart needs no utility service, and can be used at any reasonably flat location. We are sheltered from rain by a 13 foot umbrella, which also protects the grill and our food from the elements. All cold storage is from ice chests and a small battery powered refrigerator. We use a rechargeable battery for the fridge, as well as for our stereo. All equipment is set up on a 20'x 10' canvas tarp. Local businesses and bands, whose employees, members, and owners are regular customers, have decorated the front of the cart with their stickers. I check the stickers for object able content every night, but remarkably, everyone has behaved themselves very well.
