SCOPE OF WORK
for determining the
PRESENCE OR ABSENCE OF
PREBLE'S MEADOW JUMPING MOUSE
ZAPUS HUDSONIUS PREBLEI
FORT COLLINS, COLORADO
GENERAL
The work of this agreement is to determine and report on the presence or absence of the
Preble's meadow jumping mouse (Zapus hudsonius preblei), at sites identified by the City of Fort
Collins. All work shall be accomplished in accordance with United States Department of the
Interior, Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Interim Survey Guidelines for Preble's Meadow
Jumping Mouse (guidelines). The Consultant shall be fully qualified and certified by the Service
to perform the surveys required under the guidelines.
Z. hudsonius preblei was officially listed as a threatened species in March, 1998. The
Consultant shall adhere to the most current guidelines promulgated by USFWS during the work
of this agreement in conducting surveys, and in the writing and submitting any and all required
reports.
Site Identification - The City's Project Manager will provide information relating to any sites
which need evaluation for possible surveys, including maps showing site locations. If
appropriate, a description of the type of any construction project proposed at a trapping site will
also be included. The Consultant and the Project Manager shall visit each of the listed sites,
and a determination shall be made at each site by the Consultant whether or not a survey to
determine the presence or absence of Z. hudsonius preblei is required by the guidelines.
Surveys - The Consultant shall schedule and conduct required surveys on all sites which have
been determined to be possible habitat for Z. hudsonius preblei. Surveys shall begin June 1,
and shall continue uninterrupted from site to site until all sites have been surveyed, unless
otherwise approved by the Project Manager. Transportation to and from all sites, and all
required survey materials, including traps, shall be provided by the Consultant.
Trap Records and Reporting - A report of the survey on each site shall be prepared by the
Consultant as soon as is practicable at the conclusion of each survey. The report shall be
prepared in a manner, and shall contain all of the information required by the guidelines. The
Consultant shall submit a copy of each report to the USFWS within 30 days of the conclusion of
each survey. A copy of each report shall also be submitted to the Project Manager.
Disqualifications and Other Environmental Assessments — If a site is visited and it is
determined that no trapping survey is required, the Consultant may be asked by the Project
Manager to prepare a site disqualification report in accordance with USFWS guidelines. A copy
of any such report shall be submitted to the USFWS with a copy to the Project Manager within
30 days of the Project Manager's request that it be done.
