Proposal
For
Fire Apparatus
City of Fort Collins
Purchasing
215 North Main Street, 2"d Floor
Fort Collins, CO 80522-0580
April 27, 2005
Your requirements have been carefully reviewed by our sales and engineering staff.
In order to prepare accurate and competitive estimates of labor and engineering costs, bills of materiels
and detailed specifications, a proposal has been prepared in our standard format for your consideration.
Our proposal meets 100% the intent and technical requirements of your specification. Minor exceptions
or clarifications, if taken, are noted separately herein.
The apparatus we propose to furnish shall be manufactured in accordance with the enclosed General
Safety Equipment Fire Apparatus specifications after proper execution of a contract.
One (1) General Safety Equipment Custom Pumper Apparatus mounted on Spartan Motors
Custom Chassis.
Spartan Gladiator Custom Chassis--- $175,225.00
General Safety Equipment Custom Pumper Apparatus--- $208,085.00
Total--- $383,310.00
Delivery: Approximately 360 calendar days after receipt and acceptance of a signed contract. Quoted
delivery is based on an estimated delivery of the chassis at our facility within approximately 160 days)
after receipt of contract and subject to all causes beyond our control.
F.O.B. Fort Collins, CO
TERMS: Payment due upon completion, delivery and acceptance of finished apparatus
If the chassis is paid upon arrival at the body builder's facility, the discounted payment is indicated below.
Prepayment amount
Chassis $168,566.00
Subsequent orders for fire pumping apparatus shall be accepted at the previous sales price plus real'
change in material and labor costs increases not to exceed 6%. Actual sales price of additional engiihes
to be negotiated at time of order.
We anticipate the actual change to be less than the highest qualified annual percentage increase,
however, given the nature of the expected EPA emissions standards changes for 2007 and volatile nhetal
prices, the effect could approach the noted maximum increase. Furthermore, engine compliance anal
availability may affect the currently specified chassis engine.
The amount named in this proposal shall remain firm for a period of 30 days from the date of same.
Respectfully Submitted,
Floyd Bacon

1500 GPM TWO STAGE FIRE PUMP
10138-0027 04/27/05
PDF created with FinePrint pdfFactory trial version http://www.fineprint.com
Max Fire Apparatus, Inc.
A Waterous Model CMUYBX-1500 fire pump shall be midship mounted, two stage centrifugal type with a
rated capacity of 1500 GPM. In addition to meeting NFPA 1901 requirements, it shall be constructed and
mounted in accordance with the following specifications.
Suction intake arms shall be provided with removable die cast zinc screens that are designed to provide
cathodic protection for the pump, thus reducing corrosion in the pump.
In order to remain consistent with the operation and servicing of our existing apparatus, the Walterous
brand fire pump is a strict requirement of these specifications.
Fire pump shall incorporate high strength involute toothform HYNO chain drive transmission. benefits of
the chain drive include quiet, noiseless operation at high shaft speeds, and improved power transmitting
capabilities due to the fact that the chain wraps itself halfway around the gear distributing a verb uniform
pattern of tooth engagement. Pump transmissions utilizing spur or helical drive gears which cr ate high
noise levels at elevated speeds and only permit minimal tooth to tooth engagement are not acptable.
The shift engagement shall be accomplished by a free -sliding collar and shall incorporate an internal
locking mechanism to insure that collar will be maintained in ROAD or PUMP operation.
Pump shall deliver the percentage of rated discharge at pressures indicated below:
100% of rated capacity at 150 pounds net pressure
70% of rated capacity at 200 pounds net pressure
50% of rated capacity at 250 pounds net pressure
100% of rated capacity at 165 pounds net pressure
Impellers and impeller seal rings are to be of high grade bronze replaceable type and mounted Ion a
stainless steel shaft supported by heavy duty, oil lubricated "ball' bearings. Bearings shall be protected
from water and sediment by suitable stuffing boxes, flinger rings, and oil seals. Pumps using "sleeve" type
bearings are not acceptable.
Impeller hubs must be "Flame Plated", impregnated with tungsten carbide to assure maximum bump life
and efficiency despite the presence of abrasive particles, such as fine sand, in the water being bumped.
The impellers shall be accurately balanced and of the mixed flow design with reverse -flow, Iabyhnth-type
wear rings that resist water bypass and loss of efficiency due to wear. The bronze wear rings shall be
easily replaceable so as to eliminate need for the replacing of the entire pump casing due to wear.
The impeller shaft shall be of a "separable" design to allow true separation of the transmission from the
pump without disassembly or disturbing either component. Fire pumps requiring disassembly of pump
body and transmission to service either component are not acceptable.
The main pump body shall be horizontally split and shall be in two sections for easy removal of he entire
impeller assembly including wear rings, without disturbing setting of the pump on the chassis. ump case
halves shall be bolted together on a single horizontal plane using a single gasket.
A cross section view of the pump and gear case showing all working parts shall be furnished and will be
considered in judging the acceptability of the design.
The pump body is to be of close grain grey iron with all moving parts which come into contact with water to
be of bronze or stainless steel.
The pump must be tested by the pump manufacturer for 10 minutes hydrostatically at a pressure of 500
psig. Certification by the pump manufacturer must be provided.
The pump shall be provided with a plate giving the rated flow at "capacity" and "pressure' test pressures,
