MINIMUM DERRICK SPECIFICATIONS Sheave height to be minimum 51 feet at highest point (based on 40 in. frame height). The unit must be manufactured in a ISO 9001 certified facility. 1.0 CONTROL SYSTEM COMPLY YES NO X X 1.1 The digger control system is a state of the art wireless controller. This controller incorporates all following functions in a dual joystick design: Boom raise/lower, Intermediate boom extend/retract, Upper boom extend/retract, and Boom rotation. The joysticks are fully proportional and incorporates a safety trigger which must be depressed for the control to activate. X 1.2 Fully proportional paddles control the digger dig/clean, winch up/down, pole guide open/close, and leveling adjustment. The safety trigger on the joystick activates the paddles. X 1.3 Toggle switches are used to operate the following functions: auger latch/unlatch, tool power, digger shift, engine start/stop, variable throttle control and auger shake. X 1.4 The "OMNEX" controller incorporates a 900 mhz radio control with continuous error checking and frequency hopping for fail safe operation. This industry proven controller requires no license. X 2.0 OVERLOAD PROTECTION SYSTEM 2.1 Provide overload system with digital load capacity indicator. A position sensor measures the boom angle and dual pressure transducers measure the lift cylinder force. The controller uses these inputs to determine the precise load on the boom. The loading on the unit is displayed using a back lit digital display. This data is displayed as a rating from 1-100%. Overload is reached when the rating reaches 100%. X 2.2 If an overload situation occurs the controller will disable the following functions: digger dig, boom raise, boom lower, upper boom extend, intermediate boom extend and winch up. The overload is reset once the boom is unloaded (winch down, digger clean, upper boom retract, or intermediate boom retract). X 2.3 A back driving gearbox is used for side protection. A hydraulic relief valve is used to limit the amount of side pull force. To prevent boom drift a mechanical break is engaged unless one of the following functions are being activated: digger dig/clean, winch up/down, boom raise/lower, any extend or retract, and boom rotation. Side load is set at 28,000 ft-lbs (37962.96 N-m) or 700 lb (317 kg) side pull at 40 ft (12.2 m) from centerline of rotation. X 2.4 The digital display on the controller also displays status of the sensors. X 3.0 HYDRAULIC SYSTEM 3.1 The closed center hydraulic system (with un-loader valves) operates at 3000 PSI (210 kg/cm2) with a tandem flow system with 40 GPM (151 LPM) for the digger and winch circuit and 15 GPM (58 LPM) for the other functions. Two fully proportional Apitec hydraulic valves are used in the control system. The "OMNEX" control box controls the hydraulic valves through the use of pulsating actuator on the valve. X 3.2 Dual 10 micron pressure filters are mounted in the inlet pressure lines to prevent contamination from entering the digger's hydraulic system. A 10 micron return line filter, mounted above the hydraulic oil level and inside the pedestal, can be easily changed without draining the reservoir. A filter gauge with a color coded range is used to monitor the condition of the return line filter for replacement. The suction screen inside the tank has a 100 mesh (149 micron) rating and can be removed for cleaning. A gate valve is located below the reservoir to prevent oil loss when the pump is serviced. A magnetic drain plug is used to attract and collect metallic contamination from the oil X 4.0 POLE GUIDES 4.1 The pole guide system incorporates removable arms manufactured from .75 in (19 mm) thick 100,000 PSI (7030 kg/cm2) plate steel. Full 1800 arm articulation is achieved though a simple cylinder/link assembly. Load holding valves for the pole guide tilt and open/close are standard. The standard pole guides are designed to handle pole from 7 in (178 mm) to 15 in.(381 mm) diameter poles. X 4.2 Pole guide Leveling is achieved by a hydraulic Master/Slave Leveling system. The Slave cylinder at the platform incorporates an integral holding valve. Located in the wireless control box is a leveling adjustment lever. X 5.0 BOOM TIP WINCH and SHEAVE K4 5.1 The boom tip sheave head is a 45 in. diameter equivalent TRI-Sheave design for maximum rope life. The sheaves are manufactured from durable aluminum. X 2 A 15,000 lb (6804 kg) maximum capacity winch is mounted inside the upper boom tip. Load holding is achieved through the use a self locking worm gearbox with a hydraulic holding valve providing additional load holding capacity. Maximum flow of 40 GPM (151 LPM) will provide an average line speed of 27 ft/min (8.2 m/min). X 3 The Digger Derrick must maintain all insulation properties with the winch rope installed. 5.4 70 foot of 1 inch Spectron II synthetic rope with 57,000 Ibs average strength. 6.4 8.5 ton swivel hook. 6.0 DERRICK CAPACITIES* (pounds) X 9 9 800 Fully Retracted 45,444 800 3rd Stage Extended 30,673 800 2nd Stage Extended 30,432 800 Fully Extended 22,817 Oo Fully Retracted 6,100 Oc 3rd Stage Extended 3,773 00 2nd Stage Extended 3,532 Oo Fully Extended 2,381 10 foot radius Fully Retracted 15,328 10 foot radius 3rd Stage Extended 15,572 10 foot radius 2nd Stage Extended 15,330 10 foot radius Fully Extended 16,593 ' Capacities stated are based on derrick capabilities. X 7.2 The intermediate boom is formed from high strength steel (100K PSI) forming 16.2 in. x 9.6 in (386 mm x 244 mm) rectangular tube. X 7.3 The 14 in. x 8.5 in. x 1 in wall (355 mm x 216 mm x 25.4 mm) rectangular upper boom is constructed of high strength filament -wound epoxy resin fiberglass. The fiber -glass boom is certified for 46 kV and below in accordance with ANSI A10.31-1995 46 kV and below dielectric rating requirements. The upper boom has a 40 in (1016 mm) insulation gap. X 7.4 Boom articulation is 100 degrees, from -20 deg. to 80 deg. above horizontal. Articulation is achieved by using a double-acting hydraulic cylinder equipped with an integral holding valve. In the event of a hydraulic failure, the integral holding valves prevent boom movement by locking the booms in position. X 7.5 Piggyback extension cylinders are mounted inside the boom assembly for maximum protection. X 7.6 Boom overstow is achieved by a normally open switch that closes when the boom is in the boom rest disabling the boom down function. X ..7 High density UNMW polyethylene wear pads on all booms provide long slide pad and boom life. X Actual 8.0 TURRET, PEDESTAL, and ROTATION 8.1 Turret wings are made of 100,000 PSI yield strength steel plate. The bearing cover is continuously welded to prevent foreign materials from obstructing the turret's rotation. The 1.25 in. (32 mm) turret base plate is machined to provide a flat surface to support the rotation bearing. X 8.2 Rotation is continuous and unrestricted in either direction. The rotation system consists of a hydraulically driven planetary gear acting on a shear -ball rotation bearing. X 8.3 The critical bolts holding the lift to the rotation bearing and the rotation bearing to the pedestal are 3/4 inch grade 8. The bolts are torque seal marked to provide a quick means of detecting any loosening. An eccentric ring gearbox mounting allows for precise backlash adjustments. X 8.4 The pedestal is a fabricated steel structure incorporating a 1-1/4 in (32 mm) top plate which is machined flat to support the rotation bearing. The pedestal is produced from 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) thick 100,000 PSI yield strength steel. X 9.0 OUTRIGGER and SUBFRAME 9.1 Main out and down outriggers are designed and constructed from high -strength steel. The outer boom size is 9-1/8 x 11 inches. The inner boom size is 7-3/4 x 8-7/8 inches. The down tube size is 7 x 7-3/8 inches. At 8 in. (0.20 m) of penetration the outriggers provide 195 in. (5.0 m) of spread (pin to pin) based on a 40 in. (1.02 m) frame height. Outriggers are equipped complete with pilot operated check valves, internal thermal relief valves, and separate operating controls for each outrigger. X 9.2 Outriggers shall be equipped complete with pilot operated check valves, internal thermal relief valves, and separate operating controls for each outrigger. With the digger on the third boom stage, set up time decreases and productivity increases as there is less need for accuracy when determining distance from the dig site. Operators are also provided the ability to park closer to the road ... all the while continuing to reach new digging diameters. Safety is a major concern; by providing a digger on the third boom stage, the operator is protected in the event of hitting underground powerlines. 15 000 LB. WINCH ON THIRD BOOM STAGE The VXD is the only digger on the market that has a 15,000 lb. winch on the insulated third boom stage. Dielectric integrity is maintained because no rope crosses the insulation gap, so it does not matter if the rope is wet or dirty. The need to operate the winch line in or out when extending or retracting the boom is eliminated, further helping to increase productivity and ease of use. The winch on the third boom stage allows the VXD use of the load line in energized situations when using the machine as a manlift. FAIL-SAFE. ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED ZONE RATING The VXD provides superior safety protection due to the implementation of its fail-safe, electronically controlled zone rating. The electronically controlled zone rating takes the guess work out of lifting loads because the operator doesn't rely on a load chart. The digital read-out on the controls tells you exactly what percentage load is remaining in any position. The electronically controlled zone rating also eliminates swinging a load over the side into a tipping position. The number of application possibilities are increased to allow short -jacking, smaller trucks and the use of A -frame outriggers instead of radials. FAIL-SAFE ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED OVERLOAD PROTECTION The VXD greatly reduces maintenance costs over the life of the machine by providing fail-safe, electronically controlled overload protection. "Field tuning" is eliminated to allow the unit to pick up more than rated. The VXD is the only digger on the market that provides both lift cylinder force measurement and boom angle measurement to provide accurate protection. HYDRAULIC LEVELING AND ROTATING BUCKETS Eliminate the need for having two trucks by utilizing the VXD's hydraulically leveled and rotating buckets. These features combine to convert the digger derrick into a true material handling bucket truck, providing the operator the opportunity to handle multiple tasks with one machine. Productivity is increased due to better maneuverability in the work zone, increased operator comfort with no ackward bucket brake and gravity leveling, and increased access to work with dual buckets that rotate hydraulically 90°. When placed in the cradle in the bucket, the VXD electronic controls automatically make two conversions: 1) the VXD provides boom sequencing so that the fiberglass extends first and retracts last, and 2) the VXD changes the overload rating to manlift status, making it the only digger derrick on the market that conforms to ANSI A92.2 when used as a manlift. Stability is 1.15 times the rated digger capacity, but 1.5 times the rated manlift capacity. Due to these figures, the VXD is the ONLY machine electronically protected from stability overload whether operated as a digger or manlift. Hydraulic leveling also provides simple bucket cleaning and drainage, as well as easier emergency rescue. In addition, the optional pin -on jib is the only jib on the digger derrick market that hydraulically levels with the bucket. HYDRAULIC LEVELING POLE CLAWS Productivity is increased, operation made easier and "butt -kick" eliminated with the innovative hydraulic leveling pole claws, which automatically level the pole as the boom is raised or lowered. The operator is allowed to focus more on pole placement and less on pole leveling. REMOTE/RADIO CONTROLS AS STANDARD EQUIPMENT The VXD offers remote, radio controls as standard equipment which help to greatly increase safe digger operation. Being close to the hole allows the operator to personally determine what precise movements are required and frees the operator to move to the best vantage point. MICROPROCESSOR BASED RADIO CONTROLLED DESIGN The VXD is designed from the ground up as a microprocessor based, radio controlled machine. It incorporates modern technology to ensure better performance and more reliable, safer and less costly operation. 4*>010 VXD Digger Derrick ®JP gg TIMME MANUFACTURING COMPANY GE LSF8-CIFIDAMON .
