ZIEGLER ROAD WIDENING PROJECT

SUMMARY OF WORK: I
■ ZIEGLER ROAD WIDENING
o The improvements include the 12 foot widening of Ziegler
Road, South of Rock Creek, to minor arterial standards
and the 20 foot widening of Ziegler Road, North of Rock
Creek, to full arterial standards, including a 2 inch mill
and overlay of the east half of the roadway. The
improvements will include vertical curb and gutter, six
inch variable width detached concrete sidewalk, the
piping of the existing irrigation lateral used by the school
district, the reconstruction and relocation of the existing
concrete irrigation lateral north of Rock Creek and storm
sewer improvements along Ziegler Road.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM GENERAL
CONDITIONS AND GENERAL REQ'S:
■ SUPERINTENDENTS:
o The General Contractor SHALL employ a full time Superintendent whose
sole responsibility is to monitor and coordinate all facets of the work.
■ LIQUIDATED DAMAGES:
o The contractor will be charged $1,150 per day or fraction thereof that
expires after August 1, 2004 unfit substantial completion.
o The contractor will be charged $500 for each working day or fraction
thereof that expires after the 10 working day period after substantial
completion until work is ready for Final Payment and Acceptance.
■ WARRANTY:
o The Contractor will be required to warranty the street improvements 2
years after date of final acceptance.
■ CONSTRUCTION HOURS:
o The operation of all machinery and vehicles must take place between the
hours of:
■ 6:30 a.m. thru 7:30 p.m.
■ The Contractor may request extended hours
o The requests must be approved by the City of Fort Collins 3 days prior to
any work.

o Provided by the Contractor.
■ TRAFFIC CONTROL:
o Provided by the Contractor.

TESTING:
o Provided by the Owner. It will be the Contractor's
responsibility to schedule the testing.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM GENERAL
CONDITIONS AND GENERAL REGIS:
■ PROJECT MEETING:
o Once a week at the construction trailer located on -site, time to be
determined. The TCS will be required to attend all weekly
meetings.
■ PROGRESS AND SCHEDULE REVISIONS:
o Schedules shall be updated weekly. The schedule for this
project is important to the City of Fort Collins. The Contractor
may be required to submit additional schedules depending on
the progress of the project.
■ HAUL ROUTES:
o Arterial and Collector streets only. Contractor will not be allowed
to use residential streets to access the site with trucks hauling
materials.

■ SITE CLEAN-UP:
o The Construction work and processes shall be kept
and accomplished in a neat, clean and orderly
fashion.

■ TRAFFIC CONTROL:
o The traffic control for this project will be paid for by the Lump
Sum to the Contractor and will include all costs for the traffic
control associated with this project.
o Message Boards will be paid for by the Day
■ A total of 2 message boards for 7 days will be required to inform the
surrounding public of upcoming roadway information.
■ These boards will not be placed for 7 consecutive days, so include
two mobilizations.
o Flagging on this job shall be paid for by the hour. It has been
estimated that the job will require a total of 300 hours of flagging.
The TCS will be required to provide reports weekly for the hours
of flagging.

TRAFFIC CONTROL AND
WORK AREA SAFETY:
■ TRAFFIC CONTROL:
o Traffic Control Plans must be submitted, 2 weeks, and
approved 72 hours prior to the start of construction and before
making each modification.
o Local Residential Access:
■ Local access must be maintained at all times to the adjacent
properties and subdivisions.
■ Bike traffic within the project limits shall be maintained when
possible in a separate lane. At all other times bikes hall
merge with traffic.
o The Contractor shall provide, at the Contractor's expense, all
work area safety control devices, such as barricades and safety
fence around all excavations, trenches and drop offs.

ZIEGLER ROAD WIDENING PROJECT
ITE COORDINATION WITH
■ ADEN INC.
o Aden Inc. has been requested by Hewlett Packard to
handle the installation of the concrete irrigation ditch on
this project. This item shall be addressed within an
addendum.
■ QWEST COMMUNICATIONS
o Qwest shall be relocation all of the existing fiber optic lines
along the east side of Ziegler Road so they shall be bellow
the construction limits. Existing risers shall be removed
and pull boxes relocated. Qwest shall have all of their
work completed prior to construction.
