League Play at All
Levels
Teams are available for
women's, men's and mixed dou-
bles leagues, competing at vari-
ous times of the day and evening.
These teams give the player an
opportunity to compete with area
dubs in a team atmosphere.
Round Robins
Round robin events are schedu-
led on a regular basis for
women's, men's and mixed dou-
bles play. Players rotate partners
and opponents each round. This
is a great way for new players to
meet new partners.
Challange Ladder
The ladder is available for
singles, doubles, mixed doubles
and for men, women, seniors, and
juniors.
The ladder is great for
encouraging competition. New
ratings are posted twice a month.

Junior Development for
the Disadvanged
Free programs for disadvarda-
ged children are offered as a

local sponsors.
Game Arrangement
Game am3ngement is an impor-
tant function of a tennis facility.
If players have compatible part-
ners they are more likely to stay
involved in the game.
Special Events
Special presentations on sports
psychology, physical conditioning
and sports medicine educate the
player on how to perform at their
peak without risking injury.
"Demo Days' give players an
opportunity to try out racquets in
a fun atmosphere.
Tournaments
Junior and adult tournaments
are an important part of the com-
petfttve players program. Both
sanctioned and non -sanctioned
tournaments are held for all levels
and ages.
The goal of every lesson program is to enhance each player's enjoyment of the game by improving technique,
strategy, mental awareness, and conditioning. The programs are designed to help each player reach their goals
whether they are to win the state title or to play a fun social game of mixed doubles!
Private Lessons
Individual lessons are a great
way to help you improve your
game. Whether you are a begin-
ner needing to learn the basic
strokes or an experienced player
who wants to work on a specific
weakness, a private lesson pro-
vides the most intensive way to
improve your game.
Doubles Clinics
Learn the art of doubles. Dis-
cover the strategies, court posi-
tions and ball placements that
will make you a formidable dou-
bles player.
Players participate in drills and
strategy sessions designed to
quicldy teach you to play and
enjoy doubles.
Mini Camps
Mini camps provide you with
an opportunity to work on all
aspects of your tennis game
over a concentrated period of
time. The schedule is varied and
fast paced so that you will feel
challenged. The camps focus on
various themes such as doubles
play, stroke production and men-
tal conditioning.
f
Junior Program
"Rainbow Tennis" is a goal
oriented program for beginning
through intermediate juniors
where players participate in
achieving levels corresponding to
the colors of the rainbow. It is a
great way for the junior player to
learn the fundamentals of the
game while experiencing the fun
and excitement of this unique
program.
Junior Excellence
Program
Toumament playing juniors will
find a challenging program of
mental and physical conditioning,
stroke production, competitive
drills, and match analysis to im-
prove their competitive edge and
help them on their way to the top.
of their games.
Junior Camps
The camps are for all levels and
ages of juniors. Players will learn
proper fundamentals, improve
stroking technique and match
play. Sportsmanship and learning
to compete will be an important
part of the program.
Beginner, Intermediate
& Advanced Clinics
Weekly clinics are held for
players that have never played
the game or are top ranked com-
petitors. Beginning, intermediate
and advanced players improve.
stroke production, strategies,
movement, and mental tough-
ness.
Video Lesson
M a picture is worth a thousand
words, just imagine what a video
is worth. This is a two hour video
stroke evaluation program. We
start by video taping each stroke
as you are now hitting it, then
together we evaluate the stroke
mechanics, and decide on adjust-
ments and changes to improve
the stroke.
Under the pro's direction you
will then practice the stroke, fol-
lowed by another video evalua-
tion. At the end of the program
you will have a "before and after'
video tape covering all the basic
tennis strokes.

Re: Company Philosophy Concerning Customer Service
In my current position as concessionaire and Director of Tennis at Pelican
Bay Community Park, I have developed a philosophy of customer service that I
would incorporate into the position at Rolland Moore.
That philosophy is as follows:
1) Each and every person that enters the facility is greeted with the purpose of
making them feel wanted and at home.
2) Each and every customer is questioned as to their ability, wants, desires, and
time restrictions in pursuing their tennis activities.
3) Each and every customer is made aware of the programs available.
4) The player is signed up for the activities that fit their ability, finances, and
time frame.
5) Each employee is trained in their particular area whether it be pro shop
assistant or instructor in order to deliver the highest quality of service.
6) When a customer is unhappy with the program they are involved in a change
is made when possible, when not, the customer receives a refund.
7) When a customer offers a suggestion, the suggestion is valued and acted
upon if deemed to be an improvement'in the operation.

A CERTIFIED BLUE CHIP COMMUNITY
I would like to take a few minutes to introduce Mr. Larry Lewis. I have had the pleasure
to work with Mr. Lewis for the past two years and I would like to endorse most highly
Mr. Lewis as a facility manager and a teaching professional.
Mr. Lewis has been the contracted tennis pro and tennis facility manager for the Parks
and Recreation Department at Pelican Bay Community Park for the past two years.
During this time he has demonstrated to be one of the most knowledgeable and
professional individuals in regard to tennis program implementation, teaching,
management skills and facility maintenance that I have had the pleasure to work with
during my tenure with the Collier County Parks and Recreation Department.
Mr. Lewis has implemented many new and exciting programs at the facility and due to
his hard work and dedication the tennis facility received a United States Tennis
Association honor as one of the best small facilities in the country for 1997. Mr. Lewis is
always willing to improve the service to the public and has always considered customer
service as his top priority. Mr. Lewis has always been very professional in his approach
to the management of the facility and is always striving to make it the best it can be.
Since Mr. Lewis has been contracted to run the facility, he has provided the community
with big name tennis professionals to perform clinics at the park and these events have
produced very positive response from the community. Other programs have also been
very successful and the public has been very supportive of these programs.
Again, it has been my pleasure to work with Larry. He has been an asset to our
programming in the field of tennis for the Department.
If I may be of further assistance to you in regard to Mr. Lewis's qualifications, please
contact me. My telephone number is (941) 353-0404.
Sincerely,

Cambier's tennis
facility recognized
By TOM RIFE

Some local residents may take
the tennis facility at Cambier
Park for granted. But pro Larry
Lewis wants everyone to know
that Cambier matches up with
some of the best public complexes
in the nation.
And now he
has the ammu-
nition to prove
it.
The United
States Tennis w"
Association has
singled out the '
Gambier facflf-
ty as one of nine
winners in its Lewis
1991 USTA
Tennis Facility Award competi-
tion. Public complexes considered

ries of small and large. With its 14

The USTA started the recogni-
tion program for public facilities
10 years ago. The purpose is to
promote the construction of public
tennis outlets by parks, schools
and industry.
"It is our hope that recognition
this center receives as a USTA
award winner will stimulate the
allocation of additional municipal
funds for the expansion of the fa-
cility and the promotion of recre-
ational tennis programs," says
Henry Talbot, director of oper-
ations of the USTA's Princeton,
N.J., office.
"The facility we have here is a
great one, there's no question
about it," Lewis says.
"But we're still not even close
to being what we could be, even
without having to make a large

In 1990, Lewis said there were
xroughly 650 Cambier Park tennis
permits issued, accounting for
about two-thirds of the facility's
overall business. Walk-in players
pay a fee for court use.
"The large majority of our
players prefer to play on the clay
courts," Lewis says. "While there
is a limit to the amount of space
we have to expand in, converting
some of the existing hard courts to
clay would be of great benefit."
Lewis and his staff of four op-
erate out of a small pro shop/
office. The daytime staff includes
Kay Granger, Jim Ferraro and
Linda Lindsey. Supervising the
evening play is Victor Zeedyk. Le-
wis from time to time is assisted
by local instructors Jeff Wagner
and Russell Dean.
"One of the things that is real-
ly needed is a pro shop or small
clubhouse that would have res-
trooms and a shower area," Lewis
recognition
says. "I think it would have a big
impact on increasing our mem-
bership. We have a lot of working
people who play who would really
take advantage of something like
that. .
"I've never seen a tennis com-
munity like this one;" Lewis adds.
s great to see. There's a full
range of players, young and old.
There's a good atmosphere for
tennis here. I think part of that is
due to the cooperation among the
area professionals."
Lewis said future upgrades of
the complex should include such
things as seating for 500
spectators, improved lighting and
landscaping.
It's nice to be thought of as
one of the best in the country
already," he says. "And as Naples _.
grows and we get more and more
players, Cambier has to keep
updating and growing, too." .

Tennis is a Dance
byLany✓. Lewis
Do you ever notice how the pros
make it look so easy? Not just the
tennis pros, but professional ath-
letes and top amateurs in all the
sports. They move with an ease
and grace that most of us only
dream about
The factors that these athletes
have in common are a relaxed
motion and a rhythm that can best
be described as a dance.
So why not dance out on the
court, Instead of the usual strug-
gle? The idea is to find a rhythm
and a relaxed fluid motion in both
your movement to the ball and the
actual stroke.
How do you find a rhythm? A
number of years ago, I encoun-
tered a tennis pro in Dallas who
used a technique he called, the
'rhythm method'. You've probably
heard of the term, but not as it is
applied to hitting a tennis ball. His
technique consisted of returning
each shot at the same pace his
opponent hit it to him. He returned
a slow ball with a slow ball, a fast
ball with a fast ball, and so forth.
By getting into the rhythm of this
opponent's shots this way, he was
able to be extremely consistent,
rarely missing a shot, and was able
to control the placement of his
shots; so as to constantly keep his
opponent moving. His concent-
ration was also excellent because

In the basic cycle of life we
receive and we give back in return.
As, infants and as children we
receive, love and care from our
parents and then when we grow up
and have a family we give back in
return, providing our own children
with love and care.
In this fabulous society we live in
we receive much and we should
give something back. We receive
all the comforts and protection of
modern society and we try to give
back through service to our fellow
man in various activities and pro-
jects such as charitable organiza-
tions, scout work, volunteer nurs-
ing, civil club work,
etc.
So it should be in
tennis. From tennis we
receive many things
-many benefits: Enjoy-
ment of fresh air and
sunshine. Healthful
exercise. Pride of
accomplishment in
winning a match, a
game, a point. Pride
In our children when
they learn to play, a

There is much to be done - to make

help create more and better facili-

develop our youth - to make the

. of Naples. He has stimulated interest in the sport and increased membership levels within the
City's Tennis program. The City is also very proud of the 1991 USTA Tennis Facility award
that he received for our program resulting in being identified as one of nine winners in this
category. In addition, he has promoted locally oriented programs for youth and has developed
a professional level of instruction clinics and challenges.
Larry has provided an avenue to address a professional level of tennis instruction and
back up support through as onsite pro shop which has been enjoyed by the avid recreational
tennis user. His interest and dedication to tennis is visibly apparent through the
aforementioned contributions and programs as well as demonstrating the excellence of his
capabilities.

I would recommend without hesitation Mr. Larry Lewis for any tennis related job whether
it be a teaching position or in a managerial capacity. In my opinion, Lary has a wide
range of knowledge and experience to draw on which would be an asset to any tennis
facility. I had an excellent rapport with him and his regular communication kept me
abreast of what was happening in the tennis department.
Larry has been our head professional at the Boca Grande Club during the 1994-1995
season. His talent, flexibility and personality allows him to work equally well with all ages
from juniors to senior tennis players, from beginners to tournament level. Our clientele at
the Club includes some of the most affluent individuals in the U.S. and Europe. Larry
showed an outstanding ability in servicing these members and dealing with any problems
that arose. He provided a personal touch for the members that is part of the ambiance of
the Boca Grande Club.
Unique and well run programming is a must for a Club like ours. The members expect it
and we feel that Larry has done an excellent job providing it.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

RE: Recommendation 1'or Larry Lewis
To Whom Tt May Concern
Working with Larry Lewis in the past few years has been extremely rewarding. Larry is
a true leader who possesses the fun -loving sense of humor that, attracts people of all ages.
Larry has shown time after time that he has the enthusiasm and dedication to organize
city and county projects.
This year Larry's USA Tennis Free -For -All Tennis Carnival was a great hit for young
and old. Larry had no trouble recruiting other tennis professionals and lots of volunteers
to make this event a special kick-off for new tennis players. As usual Larry went the extra
effort and acquired a great band which made the carnival outstanding.
Larry's professionalism and experience really came through when he assisted in a large
three county effort to obtain national grants from the USTA to promote grassroots tennis.
Larry's computer skills and input in planning for the future of tennis is Southwest Florida
has been greatly appreciated. His leadership in Collier County and the endless hours he
spends helping organize the community tennis association in his county is really paying
off. l predict the Collier County CTA will soon be one of the top five LTA's in the
Florida Section.
Larry Lewis gets involved for all the right reasons. Larry is the kind of person I'd always
want on my team and I'm sure he'll be a great asset on yours.
Sincerely,
Loretta Strickland

Re: Company Philosophy Providing Pro Shop Services
Dear Selection Committee Members:
I welcome the opportunity to direct tennis programs for the citizens of
Fort Collins.. I hope to elucidate my philosophy on providing tennis services for
Fort Collins and why I view this as an exciting opportunity to use the experience
I've gained in my 30 year professional tennis career.
I grew up in Fort Collins and attended Poudre High School and C.S.0
where I played Number 1 singles and doubles on a scholarship. I started
playing when I was 13 years old hitting on the backboard at C.S.U. The tennis
community was small and centralized, with everyone knowing each other and
each activity or tournament well supported. I always remember being able to
get a pick up game anytime of the day at the C.S.U. courts because those were
the only courts in town. As the town grew and courts were built in other areas,
the tennis community became more scattered.
Ever since Rolland Moore was built 14 years ago, I have viewed that top
notch facility as having the potential to be the center of tennis in Fort Collins and
the place to bring the tennis community back together. I mention the facility as
being top notch because I have directed programs for some of the top facilities
in the country (including two public facilities that have been awarded
"Outstanding Tennis Facility" in the U.S. by the United States Tennis
Association) and I see Rolland Moore as having the potential to be in that
category with proper programming.
It would be my goal to make Rolland Moore the center of tennis in Fort
Collins. It would become the clearing house for activities at all the city's tennis
courts. Instructors would be trained at Rolland Moore and then sent to the city's
satellite courts to teach and run programs for children and adults. Round robins,
tournaments, game arrangement, group and private lessons, camps for children
and adults, special events such as mental and physical conditioning clinics
would all be held at the facility.
Junior tennis will be a major part of the operation. My philosophy on
junior tennis is that it is important to remember that the most important thing a
child can develop from a tennis lesson or activity has more to do with life skills,
than tennis skills. Skills such as sportsmanship, concentration, dealing with
winning and losing, goal setting, and discipline. These are skills that will be

with lots of positive feedback and encouragement.
I would like to include the directing of all
City's tennis facilities in my proposal.
Thank you for considering my proposal,
