RE: Retirement of K9 Czar
Dear Officer Haynes:

It has been determined that K9 Czar has attained retirement status. Per Policy
Memorandum dated November 16, 2000: Clarified Policies Regarding Disposition of
Certain City Personal Property (pursuant to City Code Section 23-126) 2. Disposition of
Retired Police Dogs, ownership and the possession of K9 Czar will be transferred to
you.
Upon acceptance of ownership of Czar, the City of Fort Collins and Police Services will
be indemnified from any further liability with Czar. However, Police Services will provide
medication for Czar for up to six (6) months from date of retirement. All other related
care and maintenance costs will be your sole responsibility. You will be allowed to
maintain current possession of the dog house and kennel however, these items will
remain the property of the City of Fort Collins and must be returned to the City in the
event that you no longer have Czar on your property. Further you are required not to sell
or give Czar away to any law enforcement agency or in any way use or deploy him as a
police dog.
If these above requirements are acceptable to you, please sign this letter in the space
provided and return it to the City of Fort Collins, Purchasing Division, PO Box 580, Fort
Collins, CO 80522, before August 18, 2003. If you have any questions, please contact
