Description of Bid #5681 Fossil Creek Community Park
OPENING DATE: April 1, 2002, 3:OOP.M. (Our Clock)
To all prospective bidders under the specifications and contract documents described above, the
following changes are hereby made.
The bid opening date has been changed to April 1, 2002, 3:OOp.m. (Our Clock).
ANSWERS TO BIDDER QUESTIONS
1. Question: Can bidders get the bid schedule digitally? Answer: On the advice of the City Purchasing
Office, we will not be providing the bid schedule digitally to bidders. If desired, bidders may recreate
the bid form in Excel for submittal at the bid opening. In this event, the bid schedule shall be
formatted to match the final bid form provided (including the footer).
2. Question: Sheet D4.1, detail 2, shows guardrail locations, however detail 1 shows handrail in
the same locations. Are these different types of rails? Which type of rail is desired?
Answer: Both types of railings are required at these locations. The handrail follows the stairs
down to the dugouts, and the guardrail is on top of the retaining wall. See detail 4 on sheet D4.4
for clarification.
3. Question: Is the structural over -excavation, Class 1 backfill and rip -rap as shown on Sheet
D21.2 to be installed as part of the bridge abutment bid items? Is there adequate Class 1
structural backfill on -site or will it be imported? Answer: Include both the structural backfill and
the rip -rap in the bridge abutment bid items. Assume that structural backfill will be imported.
4. Question: There is a note on sheet D21.2 requiring specialized equipment in case bedrock is
encountered during excavation of abutments. We cannot quantify this item until work has
commenced. How should we bid this item? Answer: The bid shall assume that bedrock will not
be encountered during this excavation.
5. Question: Is there any base material required under the post -tensioned Roller Hockey Slab?
Answer: Structural design of the post -tension Roller Hockey slab (including base material) is the
responsibility of the contractor. Per the specifications, shop drawings are to be submitted for
approval prior to construction.
6. Question: Where does the concrete wall at the Concession Building go as shown on plan Sheet
D4.1 and Al. I? Should this be bid with the Concession Building or concrete stairs? Answer:

7. Question: Do the metal guard rails in Bid Item #91 include the guard rails shown on the
Concessions Building architectural sheets? Answer: The metal railing on the concession
building is to be included in the cost of the Ballfield Concession/RR/overlook Building (Bid Item
#154).
8. Question: Are all seeded areas except wetland seed to be straw mulched? Would Hydro -Mulch
be acceptable for the Bluegrass and Fescue areas? Answer: Only the Seed Type 4 (Dryland
Seed) and Seed Type 3 (Bio-Swale) areas need to be straw mulched. Straw mulch will not be
necessary for the bluegrass, fescue and wetland seed areas. Additionally, Hydro -Mulch will not
be required for the Bluegrass, Fescue and Wetland seed areas. Refer to the specification
revisions below.
9. Question: Please clarify "Fibrous" Cedar Mulch. Answer: The specifications allow Fibrous
Redwood or Fibrous Cedar Mulch. Use Fibrous Redwood mulch if Fibrous Cedar Mulch is not
available.
10. Question: The quantities included in the Bid Schedule for Bid Items 159 through 164 are
different from the quantities drawn on the plans. How should we bid these items? Answer: Use
the quantities that are included in the Bid Form.
11. Question: Where are Panel W and W2 located? Answer: Panel W and W2 are located in the
pump vault at the water feature.
12. Question: Sheet E-5, Score Keepers Booth, Where are the data jacks shown to be routed to? Is
there to be phone service to these buildings? Answer: Phone service is not required in the
Score Keepers booths. Delete outlets.
SPECIFICATIONS
Section 02518, Concrete Pavers, The following language shall be added to this section: Emergency
Call Box, Manufactured by Allen Tel Products, Inc., (714) 546-3522, Model Number GB90VS02HY
with pole mounting bracket GB5955PMB, or approved equivalent. The phone shall be mounted on
a 3" diameter galvanized steel pipe (with cap) embedded in a 12" diameter by 3 foot deep concrete
footing. The phone shall be mounted so that the bottom of the phone housing is X-6" above
finished grade. Install per the manufacturer's instructions.
2. Section 02522, AsDhalt Tennis and Basketball Court Paving subsection 3.01A the first sentence
of this paragraph shall be revised as follows: 'Place specified gravel base to the depth indicated on
the plans and details."
3. Section 02850 Site Furnishings subsection 2 02 A 6 shall be revised as follows:
Model: City Stone 3.
4. Section 02950, Planting Soil Preparation Finish Grading, subsection 2.16.B.3., The first
sentence shall be revised as follows: "Application rate: 9 pounds PLS per 1,000 square feet
(390 Ibs per acre). Delete the following language from this paragraph: "Or 3 lbs. PLS per 1,000
square feet (130 Ibs per acre)."
5. Section 02950, Planting Soil Preparation Finish Grading subsection 2 16.C.3., shall be
revised as follows: "Overall Bio-Swale seed mix application rate shall be 16 pounds PLS per
acre".
6. Section 02950 Planting, Soil Preparation Finish Grading subsection 2.16.D.3., shall be
revised as follows: "Overall non -irrigated seed mix application rate shall be 40 pounds
(35%PLS) per acre".
7. Section 02950 Planting, Soil Preparation Finish Grading subsection 3 11 C on page 13 of
15, Replace the second sentence of this paragraph with the following: "Seed bluegrass and
non -irrigated grasses in two passes at right angles to one another. Seed fescue in three passes
at120 degree angles to one another."
8. Section 02950, lanting, Soil Preparation Finish Grading, subsection 3 11 J on page 13 of
15, This sentence shall be revised as follows: "Crimp straw mulch into non -irrigated seed areas
at the specified rate."
9. Section 04810, Unit Masonry Assemblies subsection 2 02 D 2, Delete the following language
from this paragraph: "Factory applied, heat treated acrylic finish. Conform to ASTM C744. "
10.Sections 16510, 16527 and 16535 Lighting, The Electrical bid package shall include The Lighting
Agency, Performance Lighting Products, and Lumen Power Sources West as separate vendors
allowed to prepare equal cross reference lighting packages on the Fossil Creek Lighting Fixture
Schedules. Note: Packages shall be held specifically to the strict standards of the issued
schedule, and fixtures must cross equally or better or will not be approved Fixtures/poles will
be reviewed for structure, style and photometry performance. Poles shall match fixture
manufacturer. Each fixture type shall be subject to strict review and approval/disapproval,
individually by the Engineer. Should a fixture not match for approval, the specified fixture
shall be purchased. Contractors shall be responsible to review submittals by the vendors prior
to including the submittal in their bid package. Stringent review/approval will pertain most
specifically to the Ballfield Lighting/pole assembly, trail lighting fixture/pole assembly, and the
parking lot fixture/pole assembly.
DRAWINGS
1. Sheet S4, An Emergency Call box is shown just north of the playground and labeled as "installed
by others". Installation of the Emergency Call Box shall be included in this contract. This item is
included in the bid schedule as Bid Item #179. Refer to the specifications above for information
regarding the Emergency Call Box._
2. Sheet D4.1. The "concrete endwall" label incorrectly refers to detail 9 on sheet D4.5. The correct
detail for this endwall is detail 7 on sheet D4.5.
3. Sheet E-5 Score Keepers Booth Electrical Plan, Phone service is not required in the Score Keepers
Booths. Delete outlets.

1. Bid Schedule. Revisions include the following:
a. The bid form included with Addendum 2 did not include all of the information for Alternate
Bid Items 6 and 7. This information is now included.
b. Bid Schedule, Base Bid, "Item No. 86, Rail Fence without Wire Mesh", quantity has been
revised to 468 linear feet.
c. Bid Schedule, Alternate Bid. "Item No. 3b Deduct Asphalt Tennis Court Pavement", The
quantity has been revised to "34,928", and the unit has been revised to "square feet".
d. Bid Schedule, Alternate Bid. "Item No. 3b, Deduct Concrete Perimeter Beam", The
quantity has been revised to 1,020", and the unit has been revised to "linear feet".
