U: 'fall Hill Road Bridge Over New Mercer Ditch
Bid No. 5730
Dear John:
Following are the item I promised after last weeks meeting, I feel that once you have
had some time to digest the inforrivition we should probably schedule another meeting to
discuss details or item I'm unaware of or ideas that you folks may have had since we
mct.
1.) If the project goes as bid and originally planned we would want the time to start
November 41h. We would mobilize on this date. Contracts, submittals,
approvals, and fabrication of items would take place during October. This would
allow the Burcaus trucks to haul in November also. It wouldn't make sense to
close the road and start until we are sure we have materials to work with. This
will impact the Christmas season though. The project would be complete as
outlined in the contract documents.
2.) If we delay the start of the project until January 61h (see schedule attached) and are
allowed to close the road for 10 weeks several items come into play as listed
tvlow.
A.) A credit to the city amounting to $19,420,00
B.) Avoid the Christmas season traffic and missed workdays.
C.) Impact tral'lic flow for 10 weeks vs. I & weeks
D.) Hopefully better working conditions in February thru April when they
will be needed.
L.) Truck traffic allowed hauling until January 6th and resuming March 170i.
F.) Canal flows allowed by April I ".
(0 Better -built structure with no construction joints.
14.) plenty of time to get all the materials lined up which would avoid delays.
1.) Safety of the public,
SEP-25-2002 WED 07:24 AM CFO ENG, FAX NO, 9702216378 P. 03
3.) If the project is delayed until October ol'2003 and constructed as planned we
would face escalation charges of $9,200.00. If we were allowed to close the road
down and build it as our sclu, dule indicates starling October 0" your cost savings
would be $10,220.00. Items that conic into play here are.
A,) Plenty of time to Set ready for the project.
B.) Truck traffic will be reduced.
C.) Christmas season next year will still lx,, impacted.
If item 43 is chosen I would like to be given the contract with a notice to proceed dated
October 6th 2003 so that I might lock subs and suppliers in also, It might be necessary to
pay 'Ihr stored materials etc. to avoid price hikes etc. I have talked to most of the team
and feel like they all are willing to hold prices as long as they know they have the work.
'Elie schedule and liming is all contingent on favorable weather conditions that will allow
us to work through the winter months. 13xtended cold snaps below 25 degrees and heavy
snows may impact our schedule arui time to complete the work.
Please let me know at your earliest convenience which alternate is most appealing and if
further discussions are needed,
Sincerely;
,14e:51 4--
