Infield Mix
John, I would like to sole source the infield mix that we purchase from Jake Kauffman & Son, Inc. for the
following reasons:
The material has been used since 1997 and has been a very consistent and performs in it's desired
application very satisfactorily:
- It can be "milled" to a desired consistency to accomodate the multi use of the field: i.e. Soft surface for
softball vs. a harder surface for baseball
- It can be worked up very easily in the Spring
- The material can take up to 1/4" inch of rain and we can still play on the surface in a safe manner which
saves us from canceling ball games due to rain and then having to make them up at a later date
We have taken low bid on this material and it was a disaster as we had to remove it from the infield and
replace it with this material. The low bid material got very slimy with little rain creating a very unsafe
playing surface
The material is mined from a very "pure" source and does not need to be amended with any other
materials
The soil tests are very consistent with the specifications
The company is timely with the delivery
Bill may want to throw his 2 cents in and if there is anything else you need let me know.
Thanks, Roger
