City Park Nine Golf Course was built during the years of 1938, '39, and '40 by local golf
enthusiasts who persuaded the city fathers that a golf course would benefit the city in many
ways. Help with funding came with a grant from the Works Progress Administration, [WPA],
which helped provide work for men during and after the great depression of the '30's Many
volunteers also donated money, goods, and services The course was finished in May 1940,
and was dedicated on June 16, 1940 to the delight of many
The players met at a 20x20 starter shack until the city allowed this dedicated group to
remodel an old barn into a dub house. The men did the work and the ladies fed them The
ladies held fundraisers to buy furnishings, including kitchen furnishings The men held raffles
at their tournaments to help with the remodeling, including wall paneling and a cement floor
The clubhouse was renovated in 1988 by the city, using the basic structure of the old barn.
Improvements included newer windows, wall treatments, restroom facilities, and [praise the
Lord] air conditioning
In 1942, one of the ladies, Iris Carter, organized the first Ft. Collins Womens Golf
Association. Many years later, after the Ft. Collins Country Club was built the name was
changed to the City Park Nine Womens Golf Association

the 18 Hole and 9 Hole City Championship tournaments Membership has varied over the
