HomeMy WebLinkAboutCORRESPONDENCE - GENERAL CORRESPONDENCE - GIFT CERTIFICATESCultural, Lit Golf Division and Recreational Services Fort Collins 28, 2001 I►OLVALO .7eVD111a1 TO Dale Smigelsky, Golf Professional/SouthRidge Mike Goff, Golf Professional/City Park Nine Jim Greer, Golf Professional/Collmdale FROM Jerry P Brown, Manager of Golf - 77f-2s~ RE Proposed Revised Policy for Gift Certificates for City Golf Services Based upon the direction I received earlier this year from the City Manager in regards to the Derek Cordova golf services gift certificates issue, I am now hereby proposing to modify our policy as it relates to gift certificates sold for City golf services The City Manager made it very clear to me that if a customer purchases a gift certificate and pays the City for a future City golf service (i e green fees, golf cart rental, annual pass, punch cards, etc ) that we must honor that certificate at virtually anytime in the future For management purposes we can still put an expiration date on the certificates, but in reality we must accept the certificate for usage and/or refund, at face value, whenever it is presented to us The certificate in effect becomes a "credit" for future City golf services I suggest that we continue to put a December 31 expiration date on any gift certificates for City golf services sold, but that customers are notified at the time of purchase of the certificates that this is a credit for future golf services, and that the user of the certificate will be required to pay any cash differential for said City golf services in the future if the price for those City golf services has increased since the time of purchase of the certificate The other option is to make City golf services gift certificates "good" for one year from date of purchase, especially if purchased after July 1 of any year, with the same notation about paying the differential cost increase (if any) If a customer wants a partial or full refund on a gift certificate for City golf services, they must request said refund only from me in writing, with the gift certificate attached clearly showing the amount of refund to be paid Refunds for City golf services gift certificates will not be made at the golf courses What do the three of you think about this? Please call me with your thoughts and I will then decide on a specific policy Remember, I will be in Denver from Tuesday afternoon, October 2, through Friday, October 5, attending the National Recreation and Parks Congress, but I will be back in the office on Monday, October 8 I'd like to have a Policy in place at our October 17 Golf Staff Meeting if at all possible Thank you City Park Nine Golf Course • 411 South Bryan Avenue • Fort Collins, CO 80521 • (970) 221-6650 Colhndale Golf Course • 1441 East Horsetooth Road • Fort Collins, CO 80525 • (970) 221-6651 SouthRidge Golf Course • 5750 South Lemay Avenue • Fort Collins, CO80525 • (970)226-2828 Golf Adnurustrahon • 215 North Mason Street • Fort Colhns, CO 80524-4408 • (970) 221-6350 • FAX (970) 221-6586
